Hey guys have not been on for a while. I am going to buy a Glock 21 this friday in 45 ACP. I went to the shop today to hold this pistol and the xd also in 45 because that was the only other one that I was considering. Between these TWO pistols which do you like more. I am not a person that has shot alot of pistol over the years but have really started to like it. I shot the Glock and a outdoor festival two weeks ago and fell in love, but was wishing to have some of you law officer fellas tell me how you like the glocks. I guess either way I am going to get the Glock but it would be nice to see what you guys think.

Thanks a bunch

I have a glock 26 for my conceal carry purposes. I love it. My buddy just got a 21 a few weeks ago and said he loves his. I just don't think that you can go wrong with a Glock personally. A few of the LEO's that I know carry the 21 and use the 26 or 27 as a backup. I don't think you will be disappointed.

It just boils down to which one feels more natural in your hand. But if you plan on handloading for your new 45 I would lean toward the XD. XD's have a fully supported chamber which the Glock does NOT and this has led to some difficulties in Glocks with some reloads.

Now I know this will start a firestorm with people saying there is no problem reloading for the Glock. I do not want to start that debate. I just want whunt_64 to consider it in his decision.
Google "glock kaboom" if you are not familiar with these issues.

Just my 2 sents.

As mentioned above, the fit to hand is important, and the Glock feels much larger in the hand than the XD. Handle both, side by side, and see how your finger reaches the trigger. I have both, and they are both good guns, but very different in handling. Smaller hands/shorter fingers will probably have a hard time reaching the trigger properly, to pull straight back.

I've never gotten to shoot the XD, but have owned up to 9 Glocks and still have 4...one of which is a G-20 (Same size as the 21) in the 10mm...and used to shoot a lot of the GSSF competitions (up to 9 per year) and that's a lot of shooting with the practice factor thrown into the pot.

Are they dependable?...Yes... Are they accurate?...Yes..

I reload for all of them and never had a problem over the years....but that's not to say it couldn't happen..

Not all hands are made to hold the larger frame Glocks (20 & 21) but if yours fits well and it's comfortable, it's a good weapon. Go with what is the most comfortable for you...

As an example, I'd love to have a Sig Sauer for their precision, but every time I pick one up, it doesn't feel natural in my hand, so I've never owned one...At one time I bought a HK USP and after shooting one match, sold it for the same reason...it just didn't "point" naturally for me..

I have carried and shot both. Glock is generally not as accurate as XD. This may be purely because of the trigger but I am not sure. XD triggers are closer to single action than Glock and I believe the XD is safer because of the grip safety.

I have two Glocks and two XD's , I like both brands but in my hand the XD feels the best and my preference goes to the Springfield XD's . Everyone is different so pick them both up and compare them SXS and make your choice on what feels best to you.

I just bought an HK, WOW what a weapon. Just trying to give more options. The feel, accuracy and felt recoil is GREAT. Was never a fan until l shot one, Now I am looking forward to saving for another.

ftchmup,
I carry a USP 45 every day at work. I consider it the Cadillac of semi-auto's. I like everything about it. I've carried it for about 10 years. No complaints. Before I retire I wanna pick up a USP Compact in 40 to carry concealed.

I carried a Glock 21 for over twelve years on duty and off. I had two because I did not know when I bought the first one how reliable they really were(even though I was on the commitee that did the testing and evaluation for my dept.), that was in 1992, I got two with consecutive numbers. I alternated them one inm the duty holster and one in the locker every day. I never needed the one in the locker, even though I worked in extremes of weather from bilzzards, to freezing rain, to dust blowing so thick you could not see across the street and summer cloudbursts . I never had an issue except one when my pistol froze in the holster. due to being out directing traffic in a freezing rain, then it turned off into a blizzard, I got drenched and froze in about an hours time before my relief got to the intersection. Both my pistols retired with me. It might be noted that I did not think enough of, any of the S&W 357 revolvers I had carried prior to the Glocks to keep any of them around. I did keep my Ruger SP 101 though, it is just handy, and my Grandson wants it so it is in my will for him when he is old enough.
I have looked briefly at the xd I was not impressed, it was one of the pistols we looked at when the Dept changed to semi's but at that time it was made in hungary or somplace and we rejected it due to the fact it was imported along with several other problems.

I like the XD45, but then my duty gun is an XD Tactical 45. I have shot Glocks and I just don't care for the grip frame and my experience with glocks and reliability hasn't been that good. Get what ever feels good to ya.

I carry the XD9SC and really like it. I have a G19 as well. It seems as though I shoot the XD slightly better than any of the Glocks I have shot. I would be carrying a G26 if I could have found one when I got the XD. But I had to go and fondel the XD. The best thing the Glocks have going for them is the availability of spare parts both factory and aftermarket (not that you would ever need them). The aftermarket for XD and even factory parts is somewhat limited but I do believe it is getting better.
I cannot bad mouth either of them, get which you like the best you will be satisfied either way. Or buy both.

FWIW, I have owned both. Currently I only own an XD45
Compact, but am seriously lusting after a Glock 29.
The XD45 seems to be the best pistol, for me, in
high stress simulated pistol shooting conditions.
I thought I was pretty good with a tricked out 1911,
and a Glock 21, until I started shooting this XD45. I sold
the Glock, and the 1911 rides the pine. But if you have
your mind made up on the Glock, and you like the way it
feels in your hands, go for it. It is an excellent
choice.

I was planning on the purchase of a 357sig in either glock or xd. I did alot of research, and did not find any negatives about the either. The only thing remotely close to a negative, (and its not) is that the xd is croatian made (the hess 2000 i beleive). It is not a true springfield made arm. To me it makes me think of remingtons spartan line up. Everything else is fine the xd. It performs well. The only reason I was leaning towards a glock, (glock 31 to be precise), was so that I could purchase a 40 S&W barrel to drop in. Those are about my thoughts.

I wound up purchasing a taurus in pt957 in 357 sig. It was much cheaper. I will see how it turns out.

Like others, I think it boils down to ergonomics. As an avid IPSC shooter, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to shoot thousands upon thousands of rounds through Glocks and XDs. Both are solid, reliable guns. Pick one and shoot.

Thanks for all the input guys. I indeed did hold both side by side and thought that the glock felt better. I am a long sort of guy at 6'3" with large hands so maybe that is why the Glock felt a little better. I read somewhere in the posts that someone said, "pick one and buy it or maybe both". Funny thing is that is kinda what I told myself. hehe

Thanks again

Why not the M&P .45? The ergonomics of that pistol are fantastic. Of course I'm a little bias since that was my latest purchase. Fine pistol though and comparible in price to the XD or Glock /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have an XD in the 40. and love it. It fits better in my hand and shoots great. I love all the safety features that it has and you get all of the extras, like speed loader, holster, and clip holder with the XD.
