You get ONE predator caliber/gun.....

sadly you can hunt small game where i live with any thing up to a round with a 275 diamiter how ever the the 7.62x39 is illigal in most parts of ontario stupid gun laws

if the person is rich and isn't saving the fur and wants to knock them down DRT at 2430 Meters well they're is only one choice A candian armed forces issue Mcmillan Tac 50 the only gun ever to out shoot Carlos n hathcock the second's 2240 something record use US issue it's hotter then our though

for me the most i'd need is a .223 seeing as most of my targets are well with in a 1000 K with 250 even being out of the question don't doubt about it i have no current use for a 50 cal BMG how ever we the federal election isn't for a while who knows till after that if canada will stay not a third world country

wouldn't mind a 308 m14 or maybe a .243 seeing as they are close in size and it's easyer on the dogs from what i have heard would be a nice custem gun

In the east, I would recommend a guage, not a caliber. I'd say a 12 ga 3.5" would be the most versatile from cats and fox to yotes and even some crow hunting. I have found my Mossberg to be handy on any game living in this state from the occasional close-up groundhog to fall deer hunting. I even took 7 doves with my red dot scoped shotgun Tuesday evening. If he has his heart set on a rifle, then I would have to say 223 Remington, probably the most versatile round I have worked with. These two choices are why I bought a combo gun, now I have both in one gun whenever I go calling.

Its hard to beat a .223 for eastern critter taking. You can find the ammo just about anywhere. Second choices with be .243 or .308 but .308 might be a tad too big if he doesnt reload.

I have used most calibers here in the East, and can tell you with no hesitation that the 223 Remington and down are marginal calibers here.

243 and up for Northeastern coyotes.

Use less and you will sharpen your tracking skills fast.

Thank you sleddog, very well said with the follow up implications to consider. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

This would be the SOUTHeast (Georgia specifically).
ARCorey, yeah I really like the idea of a combo as well and almost came off the hip last year for one but other priorities for now.
He already has a 12g so this is a definite rifle only purchase. Also, money wise, likely a model 700 LV SF or similar.
Thanks again.

For a non reloader, .223 all the way. For me a reloader, .223 all the way.
