This about 25 years ago.
My daughter n I were driving a backroad. Seen a red fox run into a roadside culvert. All I had was my bow. I told her to go to one end and thrash her foot in the end. She did, and the fox came out the end I was guarding doing Mach 4.
I drew back and whacked it on a full out dead run at about 20/25 yards.

A rattle snake, what is the black snake?
Blue Indigo

While on the threatened list they are welcome sight on the ranches I hunt as they eat rattlesnakes as well as rats, etc.

This is a picture of a picture hanging in our camp; was taken by a lease member who heard a noise under his blind.

Don't know who hung this picture or where it was taken

These two snake tracks were taken a year apart near where the rabbit picture taken. Followed them both times to a large brush pile where I lost interest in them. Not the boot print in right hand picture. My boot is a 9EEE for comparison.

The snake pictures are neat, surprisingly I've seen more rattle snakes in WA and MT bird hunting than here in the SW while coyote hunting. My dog got snAke bite down here coyote hunting but I never saw that one either but he did cost me a pretty penny.

I do love the scenery pictures, that is one of the perks of day hunting over night hunting.. Thank you DAA for the beautiful photography..

That surprises me. Wouldn't have thought there would be that many snakes in those states due to the harsh winters. Guess the snakes just hibernate in winter??
Many years ago, when I was a youngster, we were sitting around the fire in hunting camp in an area known for it's large rattlers . The conversation turned to snakes and how plentiful they were on this lease. I made the comment that I had been hunting there for a while and had not seen a single snake. An older gentleman who had hunted there for years replied, "Well, let me tell ya sonny, ya been close to a lot of big ones." Every time I think of his reply, especially when wading through tall grass or bushes, the hair still stands up on my neck. I am now convinced that he was absolutely correct.
Some of the "good" snakes I've encountered since that night.........

Great pictures, Erich. Sure nice to see some scenery other than a wall of thick mesquite brush down here.;)
