Zeiss 3x9, Leupold 2.5x8 or Nikon 2.5x10, which one should I buy?

I ordered some Leupold quick detach mounts for my 4.5x14 30mm tube, 50mm bell scope sitting on my 300 RUM. The optic is great out west where you can see for miles on end but around my neck of the woods the average shot is between point blank to a 150 yards. Once in a blue moon in some areas there is a 300 yard plus shot, but not often. There's just too many trees and brush in my area. I want to pick up an extra optic for this rifle for closer quarter shooting. I have 99 percent Leupolds on my rifles and am a little paranoid about changing brands but the new Nikon 2.5x10 has me interested and also the Zeiss 3x9 50mm. The others in the running are a VX1 2x7 and VX3 2.5x8. With the addition its going to be used for a backup rifle for deer season if something happens to mine and also will be used for bear season next year if drawn so I need a bright, low light optic. The reason I through the cheaper 2x7 VX1 in the mix is because I have a couple and they work great but at 2x I think I have a little bit more field of view than needed. I also own a 3x9 VX11 that I have used for deer hunting here and it has worked great. I only have had trouble a couple of times finding close quarters running deer with it so I would like a happy medium between these 2 optics if I don't choose another 2x7 VX1.

ZEISS, hands down! I've had many Leupolds over the years (and still have some), but I think the Zeiss Conquests (have four now) are definately better glass. Leupold still wins the "looks" battle.

I have no experience with any but the Leupold VX III 2.5-8 X 36 And if they make better than that, I don't reckon I need them, it does all I ever wanted in a scope and more.

I am a Zeiss convert too. I have been a Leupold man for well over 30 years. I have lots of them. BUT, after trying a Zeiss Conquest, I realized that there are, indeed, better scopes for the money than a Luppy. I wont get rid of the Leupolds that I have for they are all fine glass, but anything new that I buy in the future will almost certainly have a Zeiss badge on it.

the glass on the zeiss is awesome, I think you will have to spend a lot more to top it, however IMO the scope isn't quite as user friendly, it seems alot more critical about eye placement, and believe it or not I think it has a little too much eyerelief for some applications, its almost has too much on my 270 win, this is also with a 14"LOP stock, however this might be welcome on a 300 RUM

Has anyone else noticed finicky eye relief on Zeiss optics?

I have a 3-9x50 Zeiss that I love! I just bought a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 for my new .17rem on Ebay for $229! I couldn't pass up that deal on a brand new scope. The extra money went toward the Foxpro I just bought. Haven't had the scope outside yet but it looks better inside than the 2 Leupolds I had.

Leupold or Zeiss. Pick one!

I had a bad experience with Nikon. I will not buy another Nikon! Horrible CS! 11 months to get a replacement scope!!!

I also had a bad experience with Nikon customer service. Liked the scope as far as being clear and sharp but I wouldn't count on them to fix it in an expedient manner. I have to admit the Zeiss scopes I have used are excellent thou I don't currently own one. But the Leupold 2.5 - 8 x is a real winner in my book. I've had one for nearly 30 years and if they make a better all around scope I haven't seen it. Its been in a couple of horse wrecks and survived. When it did finally break Leupold fixed it with no questions asked and reconditioned it for free. It was bent in the center during a vehicle accident. It came back just as clear and accurate as the day I bought it. Its been on a 22-250, 270, & 338 RUM.

Zeiss. You will take some abuse as a scope snob, but it is worth it. They can be purchased at reasonable prices. I couldnt buy good leupold for the price I pay for Zeiss conquest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
