I ordered some Leupold quick detach mounts for my 4.5x14 30mm tube, 50mm bell scope sitting on my 300 RUM. The optic is great out west where you can see for miles on end but around my neck of the woods the average shot is between point blank to a 150 yards. Once in a blue moon in some areas there is a 300 yard plus shot, but not often. There's just too many trees and brush in my area. I want to pick up an extra optic for this rifle for closer quarter shooting. I have 99 percent Leupolds on my rifles and am a little paranoid about changing brands but the new Nikon 2.5x10 has me interested and also the Zeiss 3x9 50mm. The others in the running are a VX1 2x7 and VX3 2.5x8. With the addition its going to be used for a backup rifle for deer season if something happens to mine and also will be used for bear season next year if drawn so I need a bright, low light optic. The reason I through the cheaper 2x7 VX1 in the mix is because I have a couple and they work great but at 2x I think I have a little bit more field of view than needed. I also own a 3x9 VX11 that I have used for deer hunting here and it has worked great. I only have had trouble a couple of times finding close quarters running deer with it so I would like a happy medium between these 2 optics if I don't choose another 2x7 VX1.
