223 or 22-250?

The only way you will really know is to get one shoot it for awhile and then get the other, depending on what you are using it for will determine which you like, along with do you like a smoking fast round that is the bomb for prairie dogs and ground squirrels out to 500 yds.

I've known guys that preferred the .223 because powder goes so much further. Those shooting a few thousand rounds on a PD or squirrel trip will feel the difference in cost.

I had a Rem 700 BDL varmint that shot consistently at shy of half an inch, Sako Varmint that did the same thing in .22-250. Wish I had them both back.

Get the .223, use it, you may love it and never find the need to try a .22-250.

For me I started shooting coyotes with a .243 and a .22-250, my preference was solidly for the .243, way better wind resistance, rarely if ever a spinner or runner. Dropping to a .223 for me is just heading the wrong way, but it seems like there are large numbers of guys that are very happy with the .223.

Certainly more latitude for shots that are less than perfect, extended range, less drift.

I thought, considering the question, it was a pretty good answer.
I have a 223 and a 223AI and a 22-250AI, I like them all. All three lay the smack down pretty hard. I guess they are like children, hard to say which I like best.

Don't agree with that one. I think that everyone that I know that has a centerfire rifle has a .223 but only know a couple of people like me that have a .22/250 or even want one for that matter. Around here a fine shooting .223 rifle is a lot easier to sell than a .22/250 is.

Ah, I didn't say anything about an easier sale. I said "re-sale value". Look it up, a .250 will cost more and resell for more.

Using the KISS method, the 223 makes sense.

I'm with a lot of others here that believe a 243 win is a 'better' option than the 22-250.

I'd go with either of those two, leaning towards the 223 for a dedicated coyote rifle.

Why not both? I use the AR-15: 223 for wooded areas and the Ruger 77V MKII 22-250 for the occasional open areas (farms)found in the North East. Especially if traveling to Upstate NY, they have a thing against my black gun.

22-250 hands down. I have both and hunt with both but the 22-250 hits harder and shoots farther effectively. Both cartridges shoot accurately so that's a tossup. Lots of cheap 223 ammo on the market and if you reload you're using less powder. Those are pluses but I'm talking hunting.

+1 in agreement with pk1. I have both a 223, 22-250 and a 22-250AI and I shoot the 223 the most. No reason just like the 223.
