Good work gentlemen! If only there were more!
There a few less from where I went yesterday. I spent the afternoon scouting up some new territory and scored access to a sizable place offering lots of long range opportunities. Now I just need the groundhogs to show up. I did see a few yesterday, connecting on 3 out of 4.
First I had to pay some bills and get a few groundhogs the farmer specifically wanted to go away. They were eating his beans and leaving tell-tale open spots in the field.
This one was dusted at 111 yards with the Savage 243 and won't be eating any more beans.
Here was another bean eater at a different location. I think it was a 175 yard flight for the Vmax.
I picked up a little hunting buddy for awhile. This dog was sitting by a barn watching the bean patch waiting for the groundhog too. I couldn't tell if he was happy or sad when I ruint it.
This one got me excited when I noticed it way, way off in the middle of a field. It was too far for my rangefinder to get a distance so I had to put a stalk on it to get closer. I had limited options but eventually worked my way out to a shooting position in the field. I still could not get a distance to the groundhog so had to estimate using the distance to a nearby clump of grass. I dialed in 300 yards but then could not get a decent shot as it stayed low. It would not stand up when I whistled so finally took the best shot it offered. I had to go look for it as I wasn't sure if I hit it. Finally found it and was able to get a distance lasering back towards some trees subtracting the difference to my shooting location. I was a little long on my estimate and the hog was only at 283 yards. That explains why the shot went a tad high and blew out the backside of it's head.
I noticed these little peep-peeps under a tree and think they are baby bluebirds.
