ATF Form 4 Wait Times.

Haven't even been able to submit the form 4 because I have a cadence after my name, Jr. I've been on hold waiting for the ATF to fix the "glitch" in their system for three weeks. No answers, no time frame, only wait o_O.

Just received my can today via UPS. Start to finish, just under two months.
Went out and shot it and wow, what a difference! No blow back, gas block was right on, no issues, just amazement at how quite it is.

I purchased a Rugged Oculus 22LR suppressor, at a local gun shop, submitted my information for approval on a Tuesday morning. Thursday afternoon the gun shop called to say it was approved and that I could pick up my suppressor at my convenience.

5 years ago I went with a Form 1 and built my own suppressor for a 243. I did all the work myself and it was approved in 16 days. (y)

My second approval last week went really quick. Submitted on Monday afternoon about 5 pm and was approved 8 am on Thursday morning. Basically a two day turnaround. Now it's sit and wait for the LE notice and then wait for shipping. Hopefully by the time I receive the new can it will have been in under a month.

The past Long wait times always amazed me as the actual background check is the exact same as purchasing any firearm. Just the added duty /step of a tax stamp being affixed to a document which usually is done by a treasury official vs the FBI's hired contractors for the background check.

What happens to wait times after January 1st, when the tax is removed ? Most likely be up tick in applications which could lead to longer wait times, but does the BATF really slow roll the approvals now that they no longer get any money ?

Exactly in line with some of my predictions and thoughts, however with the background checkers being sub contractors for the FBI NICS division who knows.

Many fail to say or understand that the BATFE, doesn't have access to NICS, nor have they ever. The persons doing the background checks are actually subcontractors for the FBI whom screen the application before BATFE /NFA division approval which actually fails under the department of the treasury ( and these folks don't do the 17 hour days the subcontractors do, and is the actual bottle neck).

Which any person whom is / or has been a FFL, or worked in a "gun shop" will plainly know the following:

"You can reach the FBI NICS Customer Service at 1-877-324-6427 (select Option 2 to speak with a Customer Service Representative or check the status of a previously initiated background check). Their hours are typically 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time. The NICS is customarily available by phone 17 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays (except for Christmas).
However, if you're a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) and need to initiate a NICS check over the phone, you'd call 1-877-324-6427 and select option 1. "

The above is buried within BATFE website for dealer information. I would HIGHLY suggest that non-FFL's simply not call unless it's option two, as if a non-FFL attempts option 1 they won't get through as a account is required.

This is the same exact same check for NFA background checks via a S.O.T. (commonly reffered to as a "class 3") or on ATF form 1 through ? or just buying a firearm over the counter. Is their added fingerprints and photo requirement for added Identification? Yes. Resulting in the longer than normal approval times than a non-NFA purchase.

It won't be JUST suppressors it will be the influx of SBR's SBS's, and Suppressors that will increase the wait times, which MAY be greater than the suppressor Market.

( I like many have intentions of waiting until tax free, but now as I keep thinking about it I may just pay the tax just to keep out of a long line. Which may or may not occur with the new bill resulting into a year plus back log of approval rate.)
been watching here to determine my personal course of action

If I was in the market for a new suppressor, I think I would buy now. I know what the process is and how long it should take. One has to figure out how many days wait the $200 is worth.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting around on the free tax stamp.. if it ever gets approved I almost guarantee the price of suppressors will increase to make up for the 200$
