Browning A-bolt 308 Pics Outshoots Rem 700

2MG,..the leupold turrets are hardly acceptable once you try the Nightforce or IOR,...I sold off all the MK IV's I had. Only got one leupy LR left,..and for the right offering price,..I'll swap it and throw the extra boot to it to have another IOR or NXS.

I have used Nightforce. I like 'em a lot. I wish they made something with a 40-42mm objective though.

Gotta hit the road now for a couple of job estimate appointments.......

I have several Savages, some with accutrigger some without. If I could get a Savage rifle with out a accutriger for lets say $50 bucks less, I'd be happier. Then I'd use the money saved on a Timney. And I know there's the stevens line, but I would rather have a good stock.

2muchgun - I'll put my stock A-Bolt up against your custom remmy, and I bet there isn't 2grand worth of difference in the groups /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

How bout we bet 2 grand on smallest groups. I bet there will be then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Better yet, how bout we take them to Alaska for a hunt. I bet there's 2K worth of difference when mine is still working, and yours isn't. Whatever you do, don't drop it.....

Sure thing! You pay for my hunt, and I'll be ready to go! Even got the ammunition loaded an ready!

I know the A-Bolts are tough, the last backcountry hunt it was on (2 weeks worth in the highcountry) the horse took a tumble down a helacious rock cliff, and the rifle escaped from that unharmed. A few scars on it, and no mechanical malfunctions.

The trigger will seize up from dirt or ice easier than any trigger I can think of.

The bottom metal has been known to literally shatter upon impact from even short falls.

The trigger guard/floorplate is very easily bent, and once it is, it will no longer function. Try to bend it back, and it breaks.

The bolt/firing pin assy is not field serviceable at all.

What this adds up to is a "FRAGILE" rifle.

I did not just wake up one day and decide to hate the A-bolt. My opinions are based on facts and real world experiences. If you like 'em, you use 'em.......

this isn't my debate.."however" i don't think that's a good idea..just simply a hunch..

Thanks a lot, Dave. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I was reelin' him in...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, so far I've used an A-Bolt for 13 years. Its been on ALOT of hunts, and it has yet to let me down once. It will shoot my handloads under .5 MOA @ 100, and it will shoot 1.25" @ 300 yards.

So far, my Remington 700s have had these problems:

RUST, RUST, and then RUST some more.
Recalled because of safety issues.
Shoot about 3/4 MOA
All need trigger jobs to get rid of the creep.

You spend $3k + on a custom 700, and talk smack on a stock rifle. Your a real man let me tell ya!

The new 700s have to be the worst production guns on the market these days.

My Crappy A-Bolt has killed Numerous Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Black bear, Whitetails, Coyotes, Jackrabbits, and a few other critters. What has that 15LB 700 of yours done?

I'm really not too worried about his "internet Macho-Ness" I'm on a few other forums, and I hear alot of chatter about him and his large mouth. I have yet to hear of him putting his money where his mouth is.

Take him away from his shooting bench, and throw some targets at various distances, shooting from hunting positions, and we'll see how he holds up toting that 15lb rifle around. LOL

.25MOA @ 600 is good.

Now lets see that rifle go on a Grizzly Hunt in Alaska.

Don't think your gonna find a guide that'll allow you to bring that lil peanut popper. So I guess the A-Bolt wins again! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Let me guess, another one of those guys who changes his name on every different site so nobody can add up just how much BS he is slingin'? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

If you'd like, I can show you pics of 40-50 more rifles I have on hand. I'm sure you'll find one suitable.

If not, I have that many more up north at camp......

Nope, I bet you can check alot of forums and find me on them.

Maybe I'll build myself a custom rifle on a Browning action, and we'll shoot some groups together sometime.

I've owned, and still own at least one gun from every major manufacturer out there. Just speaking it how it is, A-Bolts are the smoothest, most accurate guns out of the box there is.

Well dang man, how's the horse after falling off the cliff? A good pack horse is worth more than a Rem 700 or A-Bolt. Too be honest from my time in the back country and what would be considered a helacious cliff you would be hard pressed to find a rifle, let alone a horse carcass by the time you would be able to find a way to get to the bottom.

I don't need pics, I believe ya. All I"m saying is it isn't necessary to spend $3k on a rifle, then down talk others that don't spend that kinda money. I have a few rifles, and a few shotguns that are some high dollar rigs, you can't compare apples to oranges.

I probably have 25-30 rifles in my collection right now.

The horse is dead. The rifle was found about 100 yards down the cliff hanging up on a rock. The guy riding the horse, had a broken ankle, this was on a $$$$ guided hunt. I wasn't on the hunt, I loaned the rifle to my dads business partner after he had some issues with his 338 before he left. He hunted the last 2 days after the fall, with a broken ankle, and he shot a 380" bull.

I just saw you are from Idaho. I know how rough that country is, not sure how rough it was where my dads partner was hunting, I wasn' there. If I don't get drawn for Montana elk, I'll be back in Idaho this fall chasing bulls with archery gear.
