Converting a .223 to a .221fb

Adams&Bennett is a cheap low end barrel. Mine is from about 12yrs ago and it's pure and simply a dog. My understanding is at that time they were using seconds from several different manufacturers. Now - according to what's been posted - Midway uses Shaw barrels. Shaw has always been associated with low end quality and never supplied premium barrels. These A&B barrels are cheap and you get pretty much what you pay for. Not saying you can't get lucky with an A&B, but I wouldn't buy another one. Several manufacturers now supply screw on barrels for Savage. Do a little investigating.

The Savage 110 action is more than 1/2" longer than a Rem. 700 long action.

Guide me i'n the right direction and I will. I've never done this before so help me out. What bbl would you go with

Getfoxy.....I'd talk to Pacnor and Sharp Shooter's Supply and Lothar Walther and whoever else supplies these barrels. There are several. Find out what kind of reamer they have, make sure they have a good one. My 221 reamer has "0" freebore and .250"neck. I'd go with someone who could cut a chamber like that.....a .250" neck is perfect, and NO freebore.

I am sure there are many better quality barrels out there, but I have had good luck with 3 A&B barrels. No experience with anything else on a Savage though, so I certainly am not making any claims that they are the best.

If you get the A&B Midway currently has on sale be aware that it is a varmint contour and will not fit in a standard barrel stock.

Ok.. Can someone tell me what barrel I "can" get to fit i'n the atevens 200 stock? Ready to drop i'n, I don't want to have to deal with reaming, cutting or or anything else

Get foxy, im not surecwhat it costs for a stock to get dipped, but for a tad more you could get a durramaxx stock that's already camp and you could get it in the contour you want (im assuming)

Just a thought, better stock too probly

I only have two ER Shaw barrels, and one is on my .223 AI just served me very very well on a prairie dog hunt in Wyoming, the other is my AR-15 varminter that has given me many 5 shot clover leafs at 100 yards. I also use an Adams and Bennett on my customized 10/22 Ruger.

If ER Shaw is making A&B barrels, then I just may have to buy me more of them in the future. I am, at least so far, sold on them.

I have been running a 17 machIV in a savage 10 action for about 10 months. It feeds from the magazine okay, extracts fine, but it does not eject, the case just drops off the bolt face and falls down on top of the magazine. I have heard that there is a remedy for this, but I can't remember where I came across it, I think it was on savageshooters.com. My .02.

If you want to step up a notch, I know Pac-Nor makes pre fit barrels for Savage/Stevens. I also know that they are superb! Have four of their barrelsand it's doubtfull that I'll ever look any where else..
Luck

Pete I have seen you're shootin iron and it is pretty nice... Would they be prefit to accept the Stevens 200 stock? wouldn't have a prob payin more for a PAC NOR if I didn't have to change stocks

They'll make any contour you want, but there may be an up charge if they don't have your contour in their CNC data.
Here's a link to their web-site.

I would think that their pre-fit Savage barrels are contoured to fit Savage rifles, but the way to find out for sure is to call Penny and ask her.
She really knows her stuff, and loves to help people.

Luck

what ever you do DONT,i repeat DONT go with sharp shooter supply....you will wait 2 years for a barrel

dont believe me,look on savageshooters,6mmBR for feedback...their CS is crap, and only getting worse
