it's funny you can tell the new guy's. calling coyote's all the other different name's. like yotee. dog and the many other name's one one site you would get banned other's a lecture.alot of the veteren's. call them coyote's out of respect. just funny reading the post. Rick

Interesting insight. I prefer coyote, but for ease of typing and mainly so I don't sound too formal, I have lapsed into calling them yotes sometimes in my posts. But it always feels contrived and trendy for me to type yote in place of coyote, similar to my feeling in the 70's when we "had" to wear bell bottom pants or be out of fashion.

I agree with you Okanagan. I have alot of respect for the Coyote. It's just easier to type an abreviated word. If I have offended somebody by doing this I'm sorry.

it's just funny . you would get in troublw on other site's.it's the older group i think from over the year's they get a respect for the coyote. Rick

I think that its a bit rediculous for someone to get mad over it though. I completely understand having respect.. but thats just too much.. I bet they call Mice rodents.

I agree about it being the older group since I'm one of them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I cringe when I see yote or dogs used, but that's just me. I don't get as fanatical as the fellows on the site you speak of but I do agree with them to a point.

Another thing I use to get an idea of someones age is the use of (or lack of) punctuation and capitals. Capitals I can take or leave, but the total lack of punctuation makes my poor old brain hurt when I try to read a post.

I guess the only thing certain really is change........
Good post though.

Not trying to offend anyone. It's just my observation.

Yes puntuation drives me nuts, and tons of mispelled words, ahhhhh. But dif names for animals is totally fine with me. Coyote dosent know the difference. Again its like calling the mouse a rodent, coyote a yote, bobcat a kitty... catch my drift.

There are kids in the U.S.A. going to bed hungry every night.Man kill's his fellow man each and every day with no end in site. And there are folk's that are worrying about how much respect a coyote should get! To me a coon dog is dog a poodle is a dog and tahts all a yote is a dog! I would like to say Mr.coyote is a worthy adversary. Boys lets not put'em to high up on the ladder of life,i don't want to start eating them any time soon. You know wanton waste laws and all. May God bless us all in the new year ahead.

Ditto on punctuation. It's a courtesy to the reader. And if the writer skips too much punctuation, I skip reading what he wrote.

I've taught writing a bit, but never truly figured out the deepest why of punctuation till I taught a writing course to tribal people in Pakistan (long story, too involved). They would write a good story but sometimes use one sentence for the whole page or two. They are oral communicators, used to spoken word and stories told. When they write, they express all of the tones, emphases, pauses and body language in their minds, but none of that shows up on the page. FWIW I've been told that the first two chapters of Genesis are one sentence.

Punctuation began as merely a code to help the reader follow all of those non-verbals of oral communication, and at its best, that's still what punctuation is.

Side trip from the original post, but connected by tangent.

Added later: I have no idea about the other site mentioned, but I don't see any anger, demands or hurt feelngs in this thread. These are casual comments about minor personal preferences.

I will call the coyotes, dogs, beasts, and a variety of four letter words that are not appropriate here, or many places. They don't know what I am calling them so it doesn't really matter that much at the end of the day. As far as respect for them goes I really don't have that much for them since I try to save that for people. I don't call a guy named Sam by Bob out of respect for Sam. Doen't mean I dislike them even though I shoot at them as often as possible but I try to treat them all humanely even in death. It also does not mean that I disregard their natural abilities.

To each his own, It don't bother me what someone calls a coyote. Don't matter to me if they talk different or type different either. I'm a coyote hunter, your a coyote hunter, thats what matters.

That's funny Doyle...and very true. I've been know to call them disrespectful names composed of way more than 4 letters too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I learned to call 'em dogs 30 years ago, and I always will. Nothing to do with respect or fads, that's just what I call them. I use it more in my writing here than in speach.

We have an NHL team called the Coyotes and that word is pronounced with a long "e" at the end. When referring to our ice dogs is the only time I say "coyoteee".

I don't shoot 'em with a .17 Remington either anymore, so I REALLY must not have much respect for them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I just wanted to say sorry to anyone i offended. I am new to the game and had no idea that it was improper to call them anything other than coyote

I say yote all the time just a way of abreviating it, I really never thought someone might think it was disrespectful of a coyote! Please people its a coyote does it matter really? I respect them as they are a very intelegent critter and make a very worthy advisary. What's next dont shoot them out of respect? Im with duky someone is bored.

I call them "coyote" without the "eee" on the end. Every time I hear someone say coyoteeee makes me think they're from back east somewhere or never left the pavement of a city.

Don't get too worked up over what other people call them though. "Song dog" seems a little over the top though.

The one that does make my skin crawl is "speed goat" in place of pronghorn or antelope. Gaawwwd I hate that one. That will get me to turn off a hunting show or tune out some poster or person quicker than just about anything. It's almost as though some people have to "use the slang" to prove they're somehow with the "in crowd" or "in the know". "Speed goat" is just too far over the top for my tastes. Fingernails on a chalk board to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif Every time I hear it I just want to smack someone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For me, its "coyote" but the one thing that really rubs me wrong is when someone says "coyoteeeeeeeee" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif, drives me nuts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

SOOOOOOOO!!!!! MANY innappropriate jokes to be made about having to be PC about what we call yotes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I know, how about "four legged fur bearing calfstealing garbage eating petchasing canine americans" for short? Has a nice ring to it huh? We may have to come up with something a little more descriptive though, so we can more completely emcompass what it is to be a coyote. Ya know.........Out of respect. I would hate for them to have to rally a picket on CNN for them to get the respect they obviously so richly deserve. I would certainly hate to be pegged as a speciesist /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Dude, call 'em what you want. I will call them dogs, coyotes, mangy flea bitten stock killers,or truck targets. There is respect for the animal but there is also being able to see them for what they are. Purists that insist on proper verbage need to get out and go hunting! Heck, we have people down here in South Texas that will call them chupacabras and get put on TV. I will admit that the adding of too many ee's is too much. All dogs that aren't collared should be considered coyotes and vice versa. They are dogs plain and simple. Call them in and knock them down.
