Coyotes nearly killed my dog!

I feel for ya, GC. I had coyotes kill one of my wiener dogs a few years back. I still have blood in my eyes for coyotes. I'll kill them any way I can and when ever I can when they are around my house.

I hope your friend pulls through!

Keep us posted

I hope that Bullet gets better and your family too. That is a terrible feeling of helplessness.
I'd say that it is more than a little personal now. Go get that dirty coyote and string him up and you can let Bullet tear into him. Please keep us posted on Bullets progress.

GC, maybe you will enjoy this as I did when I read it.
I know that it is hard to keep a dry eye, especially in the end.

This is called "A Dogs Prayer"

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer use to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my God and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I would not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me a merciful eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands

Man so sorry to hear about bullet. I certainly know what it's like for a member of the family to be in dire straits.
My prayers are with you and yours.
I will admit this story has made me shed a tear or two. So Sorry.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

GC that was a real sad story and my heart goes out to Bullet and your family. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I to have a Beagle, great dogs they are. I spent several hundred dollars to electrifie my fence so she would not dig out. My area is full of coyotes who would take her on in a minute.

I hope all works out for the best.

And get that coyote. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

GC:

I'm fairly new to the forums here, but your dog 'Bullet' will be in my prayers. I know what it is to have pets so close that they are part of the family and you'll do anything and everything for them. We make a tremendous bond with our pets and them with us. Please keep us updated and I'm certain all our prayers for Bullet will be answered and he will heal.

Gary I fully understand your love of your pet which is a part of your family. I will add him to my prayers. Please keep us posted.

Don

sounds like your dog went through a rough time, he has a long recovery and I hope it all goes smooth and quick for you guys and Bullet. I was horrified when I read you post about what happened.

I have a dog also and know how they are part of the family.

Get well soon Bullet!!

your all in my thought for a great recovery!!!

Hey G.C.: All of us out here will keep Bullet in our thoughts and prayers. A friend of mine, who was in his eighties, had two young beagles that he was training for entry into the upcoming spring field trials. A big pair of coyotes jumped on them and killed them real quick for chasing their rabbit I suppose. My friend couldn't do anything about it, as he had no gun with him, with it being out of rabbit season, which nearly killed him, as these two little females were mirror duplicates of their mother, who was a field champion. He had just about decided to sell all of his beagles, but somehow, he got through it and stayed in the hobby until 5 years later when he passed away. I like to think that I helped make his grieving pass a little better, as I called in that big pair, and sent them to hell real quick, or wherever the marauding s.o.b.'s go. The greedy bastards came in to canine distress cries within a minute of the start of the calls. I still hate those two coyotes for doing that, and that is probably why I am after so many of their cousins these days. I surely hope and pray that old Bullet recovers as soon as possible. I can't imagine how bad I would hurt if they killed our little Shiht-zu, as we have raised her from a 6 week old pup, and she just had her 12th birthday. God bless!

Sorry to hear about your dog GC, but, I am kind of suprised to hear everyone talking about the coyote as if he were an "evil demon". The coyote is just an animal.
Now I'm not sympathetic to the coyote. I kill way too many to be considered a coyote sympathizer by anyone!
I would think that most guys in here would know that the coyote was just doing what comes naturally.
He was defending a territory from a dog that was allowed to run free.
Maybe the dog should have been in a kennel or a fenced yard. A fence or kennel would have kept the dog in and the coyote out.
He would not have suffered the injuries he sustained had he not been allowed to run out of the yard.
I have seen posts about cats and dogs that are allowed to run free and alot of people consider them fair game for callers when they call them in or discover them running free. I'm not saying you let your dog run free all the time but, if there are coyotes in the area it was going to happen eventually.
I'm not attacking you GC, but, the dog getting worked by the coyote is not the coyotes fault.
I used to take my patterdale terrier and rat terrier out calling. They drew in a few coyotes for me while I had them along. My patterdale got worked by coyotes one time when he ranged a little too far and I could not see him. I heard one hell of a fight and ran to it as fast as I could. My 17lb Patterdale terrier had puncture marks everywhere and a couple tears on his head and neck. Looked like a couple coyotes got a hold of him. I think he made a showing though. He had coyote hair stuck between his front teeth.
I dont blame the coyotes for attacking my dog. I put him in that position and "he" paid for it. It made me mad for a while and I did hit that area extra hard for a while after that happened. Killed a couple in that area shortly after it happened. Dont know if it was the dogs that did it or not.
I still hit that area quite a bit.
I keep a very close eye on my terriers now when they go calling with me. They love it.
Hope your dog has a fast recovery. Ron

Gary,

Bullet will be in our prayers. Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

The love that you feel for your dog is a wonderful thing. I'm sure that he can feel it and that he'll be sustained by it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

When Bullet is out of the woods and firmly on the way to recovery I imagine that there will be a few coyotes that feel the wrath of "Benelli and BAR"!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I don't imagine that you'll need any help but it you do I'll grab my shootin' irons and be there quick! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

God Bless,
$bob$

Just got back from visiting Bullet. He's really doing well all things considered! The Tech told me he counted 34 bites on Bullet. That is a bunch of damage on an old fat lap dog. With that said, Bullet is eating and drinking on his own. His vitals are normal. He's sore as heck as you might expect. His eyes are bright. AND, he wants to come home really, really, bad! The Tech tells me that the talk is they may release him to us as early as Tuesday if he continues his progress. They are taking the IV off tomorrow. After that it'll be a long healing process with plenty of antibiotics and wound care. It'll be unknown yet if he sloughs off patches of dead skin from seperation from the underlying tissue. I'm optimistic. I know Bullet isn't out of the danger fully yet, however, the prognosis is looking much better than I thought possible Friday night. I'll be going by to speak with the vet in the morning and visit again.

Ronald,
I've hunted a long, long, time. My degree is actually in wildlife biology and I've worked for a state wildlife agency for several years. I understand the coyote was doing what coyotes do. I've even said exactly what you just said before at different times. I know you're playing devil's advocate with your post and not attacking me personally. Just for clarity Bullet does NOT run wild. And for a more clear definition of the course this event will follow - I will kill this coyote. And, I will have his hide tanned and make a throw rug for Bullet out of it. That's a promise.

GC: Best news of the day! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Hang in there, and tell the family (and Bullet!) that we've been worrying about you guys all day today. Glad things are going good.

Remember that me & the Doc are here for you guys if you need anything at all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh......and when you have that coyote's hide tanned, let us know. We'll all chip in a little as a donation to the little guy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
