Wishing you guys the best. I have a month old son at home making it hard to get out. Was going to go tonight but the property owner's mother had a stroke and I thought it was in my best interest to not go in respect of the event. They are good friends and i will check up tomorrow.

Let us know how you guys do, I love the "moon" threads....keeps us all going!

Well I got lucky and was able to get out after I read the kids a few books to put them to sleep. I didn't get out until about 10 pm.

I was going solo and to a couple new spots that I've been eyeing up since duck season.

The first spot was a small lake with a bunch of woods along the west and north side. Wind out of the east but very light. Almost calm.

I came in from the west and got to the lake and the [beeep] aireaters (sp) were going and I almost turned around and went back to the truck but I kept walking by it a ways and plopped down on the lake.

I put the caller and decoy out about 50 yards and went back to the edge of the woods along the shoreline. Lot of tracks.

I let things cool down for a minute or so and tried baby kittens on the foxpro for a few minutes. Then went to baby cottontail for about 10 mins straight adjusting the volume up and down. Then switched to pheasant distress for about 2 mins. Then shut it off.

About a minute later one pops out at 75 yards. The caller wasn't going. But it was looking right at the Jack in the box decoy. (Thanks to Frozen butt, he told me he uses a decoy at night, so I thought I would try)

I didn't have a shot there was fallen trees in the way. Dang it. I grabbed the remote and played pheasant distress 3-4 seconds then shut it off and it went back in the woods.

About a minute later it pops out at 35 yards staring at the decoy. Bang flop.

I was pumped, I let the coyote distress run for a minute or two and no more showed up.

Tried one more spot.nothing

Thanks to Frozenbutt for the decoy tip. Ill be using it again under the moon.

No luck here. Tried 4 sets and didn't see any. Heard some at one set but they didn't want to play nice. The guy running his chainsaw at midnight might not have helped on that set. But I did hear two gunshots from that direction about 10 minutes later. Nice night to be out though!!

Made it out last night. Pretty slow, only had action on one spot, but made the most of it. Dropped 2, shot the 1st and the second was checking out its buddy so I shot that one too. They were touching each other on the ground.

Just got in from a short night. Made 3 sets and alomost had to revive my calling partner from a cardiac arrest. I was using a cottontail distress on a large bean field. I was in the middle of the field and my buddy was on the edge where 3 trails come together. He had his shotgun and just as I was getting ready to get up I hear boom......boom..boom. I asked if he got him and no reply. I walked over and he is standing there in disbelief. This is the first time he had anything come in while hunting. It was a fox, most likely a grey. I looked where he was sitting and there was a set of fox tracks 5 ft away and a hole from the first shot. The second and third where sprayed in the snow. I asked what happened and why he missed so close with a shotgun and he says the fox jumped at me so I shot in self defense. Then he runs away and I shoot 2 more times but I was still shaking up from the first one. Oh well nice to get one called in anyway.

Was a good night tonight. Especially considering I almost didn't go out with the snow and clouds. Missed a fox on the first stand. Seen some deer out and about on the way to the second stand which was a blank. Figured I would try one more being as animals were out moving. Started third stand with tt cowtip cottontail than went to red fox distress, than to female lone howl. Had one howl back a ways off. It yowdeled so I yowdeled back lol. Another howl or two than back to cottontail. About that time one walked out 100 yards from me towards the caller dropped him at 75. Turned on pup distress and a few minutes later two more came out to check on there buddy. Dropped one at 125(after he let me put another round in lol)and the other at 200. All this in 17 minutes lol.

Went out last night with my 10yr old and made two stands. Should have stayed in the house. Two different vehicles drove by while we were out shining with a spot light taking pot shots at what I assume were jack rabbits. I don't think I'll bother going out again till the Christmas vacation is over for the local youth.

I got out around 10 pm last night. It was a nice night to be out. Seen lots of deer in the fields. Did not see any predators while calling. I did see a fox while driving through on town and a coyote on the edge of another. Plus my wife called me to say she saw a red fox near home. I think I need to start an urban assult on them critters.LOL I am heading around 3am tomorrow again if the moon is shining. This time I will be taking one of my son's and his friend. Good luck guy's.

This is my fourth nite in a row of calling first nite had 3 come in spotted my hunting partner and headed out 2nd nite lots of coyotes talking but no takers to the call. 3rd nite called in 3 partner shot at first one and missed and next set 2 came in missed both of them lol. Just got in from tonight made 2 sets and brung one home so far plenty of action.

Hey Walker, were you guys hunting over by Lyons tonight? We made 4 sets tonight and nothing. Saw a lot of traffic for late night in the country. We set up and heard another group calling on one set so we left. Seems that every minimum maintnance road had fresh tire tracks.

Where in ND you heading?

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and happy hunting.
Sorry for the late response......My wife is from the Grand Forks area (south of Forks). Did some calling by Buxton/Renyolds area (know a lot of people there) then headed out to Northwood area and called some PLOTS stuff out there. I haven't done much calling in that area. We bumped a couple out of the first spot otherwise no luck. How is the daytime calling up there? I know some locals that have some success but that's a small sample size. I might try and get back up late Jan. or earl Feb. during the moon and see what happens.
