Why would you have wanted to try and get another shot again from where they were at, they would have been taking WAY to big of a chance of hitting Gunner. The only other way to have got a safe shot off would have been to get down just like he did and put the barrel to the coyotes ear and pull the trigger and when you are hunting Ranches where the owner wants them off there one way are another it makes more sense to keep it down to one shot and finish it the way they did.

GREAT JOB TONY AND GUNNER
+1

I would have not risked a second shot at the risk of loosing gunner, ya did all right by me and put that coyote down. After the thousands you have shot something like that is bound to happen.

Now he's agreeing^^^!

I expected controversial views on this video. I even debated long and hard about even posting it or not. But, I believe it shows the capabilities of a multi-faceted coyote dog and their effective use. Sometimes Gunner has to be a catch dog, sometimes a blood trailing dog, sometimes a tolling dog. What happened in this video scene happens on any given week here, except it's usually 200-300 yards out with a 1/2 mile bay. It just happened to be up close and personal action to the rig, this time. Heck, it happened just last week, with the coyote hiding under the rig. I understand the different views on this topic. Like I said in the post, I make no apologies for knocking the coyote in the head, just as I do when trapping.

That coyote suffered no more than someone trapping coyotes with leghold traps for the sole purpose of tagging them with his name and phone number and releasing them, just for their amusement purposes. 'eh George?

Thanks...Tony

Tony, You made a choice, not my place to criticize.

This has no more to do with "hounds" than it does with "night calling" or "predator hunting", in my opinion. I've seen alot more videos posted on PM of 3, 4, 5 dogs mauling a coyote before. I've never judged or criticized. Coyote hunting is not for the faint of heart. Move post if you wish.

Thanks...Tony

I know from my stand point , i look around alot more on this one and not the hound section,I can understand talking about hounds and selling them over on that one , but to me and alot of others Tony as well as your pictures and others videos would help us out alot more here where we can see them and learn from them.
I do look over there ever now and then but will look on this section way more, seems most of the good storys and pictures get posted here. But thats just my 2 cents and love reading and looking at all the pictures and storys of everyones.

Keep posting video on here Tony. I think your posts with gunner are the most interesting and entertaining on this site! I only wish I had a dog like gunner!

Good grief!! I would never have guessed this video would have raised such a ruckess ? I was the shooter who botched the shot on that coyote. I felt horrible that I did not make the clean kill we all pray for when we pull the trigger on any animal we hunt. Due to the close proximity of Gunner to the wounded coyote, there was no way in [beeep] I would have pulled another shot off to dispatch the animal. But I can attest that Tony responded to the situation as quickly and humanly as possible. He did the ethical thing and I thank him for it.

Tony you guys did the right thing,. No way would I have shot that coyote and took a chance on shooting Gunner!!
You guys did it right!!

No one can judge(IMHO) unless you were there that night. I am not saying that any of you haven't been in that situation, because there are SOOOOO many variances that go on while coyote hunting. Seeing a coyote at night, or any other animal, is alot different at night than hunting during the day at least for me anyway.

Tony, as I see it, you did what you think you needed to do. I probly would have done the same thing in your same situation. I don't have a problem with it at all. I don't think that you had very much time for a follow up shot. Good job to all involved. Keep it up.

nice job it's always nice to let the dog get some work in,, right??? regardless if he decoyed him in or not.
