i cant imagine what life would be like in a place where there is almost no public land to go camping, hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling anytime i wanted to. where everything is private and you have to pay to do those kinds of things. you can keep the cheap houses and jobs.
peg leg or tripod. coyote missing a leg.
For someone who doesn't like to contribute to derails, I sure seem to be doing it a lot in his thread. Texas has around 2.7m acres that belong to the government. As poorly as they manage most things under their control, I can't imagine why they would need more. There are actually lots of interesting hiking and camping opportunities here, and tons of lakes and coastline for fishing and waterfowl. As for hunting, my place is small, less than 200 acres, but by being honest, responsible, and respectful I have access to several thousand acres for predator and hog hunting that costs me nothing financially.
Texas isn't for everyone, heck if you ask me it's gettin too crowded as it is, but for hunting and fishing, we neither need or want the governments help or involvement.
