Most accurate 9mm?

Is there a such thing as an accurate 9mm? If so, I'm looking to purchase one to hunt varmints with inside and around abandoned houses, barns, etc.

I've used revolvers, but with the breech/cyclinder blast along with the muzzle blast a .357Mag. will eat your ears off. Semi-autos don't have the same decible report as a revolver.

I've only owned a Colt Govt. 45acp series 70 and was NOT impressed with its' accuracy. The Browing and Ruger .22s do not have the killing power I'm looking for without having to take head shots ONLY.

Is there a 9mm out there with 1" to 1 1/2" grouping capability at 25 yards?

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

My favorite 9mm for 'out of the box' factory accuracy is the Beretta 92FS..

If I have a competition where a 'power factor' is not present, it has given me excellent service...

Mine is a "police trade-in' that I picked up cheap and refurbished...It has an automatic 'de-cocker' when the safety is applied and is double action for the first trigger pull and single action for following shots. Holds 15 rounds in the magazine +1 in the chamber...

Olympic Arms K9 Carbine.
Hitting a coke can at 100 yards with iron sites is easy.
You can get it with a modified 32 round sten magazine, get a magazine GL-9 version to use glock pistol magazines.

Energy and velocity increases in the 16" barrel to just under 357 magnum. If you reload for it specifically you can tailor a load that will exceed 357 mag pistol cartridges.

Check out the H&K P7 series, although they are no longer being manufatured, they are still available.
With the fixed barrel design they are hard to beat for accuracy, even with the 4" barrel I can hit pretty consistant at 50 yds, even at 100 yds it suprises me.

Why not get a TC Contender or similar pistol in .357 Mag. caliber and shoot cast bullets at sub sonic levels? Or, get one of the new .327 Mag barrels and load long bullets for ballistic efficiency and low db levels?

Lots of choices out there. Do you need a repeater? Do you need a handgun?

Hope my ideas help a little bit.

Cheers,

Karl

PS: Or, you can buy some electronic hearing protection that boosts outside sounds but compresses loud noise and eleminates the loud.

HK P7M8 is the 9mm of choice. The Beretta has been a major flop with police departments and the military. Of course, the military will not tell you that but you can always ask a solider for the straight scoop.

The Sig P210 is known the world over for its accuracy... and price. That HK P7 series of pistols is very accurate also. I would put the CZ75's in a more distant third place.

But I think you are barking up the wrong tree. The .357 Magnum revolver can be many things. With full house loads it does have some blast. But everything isn't about full house loads. Handloads are easily tailored to the level you want. If not, there are some options in factory ammo. There is no difference between a 9mm +P 124 gr. hollowpoint at 1,250 fps and a mid-load in the .357 of a 125 gr. hollowpoint at 1,250 fps. Remington has the mid-load available as a 125 gr. Golden Sabre at that velocity if you're stuck with factory offerings. I think Black Hills has a load in about the same range. Winchester's .357 145 gr. Silvertip at the same velocity is an excellent load with less blast and manageable recoil. Personally, I would absolutely lay my hands on a quality 6" or longer barreled .357 Magnum revolver with adjustable sights and either handload what I wanted, or, seek out some of the factory loads I mentioned for killing coyote sized game. In fact, that is something I intend to do this year, drag a revolver or two out for a calling session and see what happens. I've killed a few over the years with odd and end handguns, mostly as targets of opportunity. This year my primary gun will be an S&W M19 .357 with a 6" barrel. I will probably be shooting a handloaded 125 gr. Gold Dot hollowpoint at around 1,350 - 1,400 fps for my calling chores. I am burning lots of .22LR ammo through my S&W K-22 6" revolver as inexpensive practice.

all good information from these guys and it all boils down to personal preference. i will always recomend an HK because it is my preference, however the glock 34 is a straight shooter and a reliable pistol. i dont know why you wouldnt just shoot some 38 special loads in your 357. i dont think they are near as loud. i have a ruger 357/38 revolver and an HK 357sig auto and theres not alot difference in report. i think you will be suprised if you try different loads and you will find a longer barrel revolver is always more accurate (long range) than an auto.

I agree with Oldturtle. I have killed alot of jackrabitts with my 92fs out to 25yds and some further. I recently put down a maniac pit bull at 20yds that had gotten violent. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Right through the lungs and out the other side with 124gr lead. (police agreed it was a justified homicide /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I have had all sorts of 9mm's and I this is the only one use. Also my go to for IDPA.

The Browning HP with Adjustable Sights is the best and most accurate i have tried for out of the box . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would be careful with shooting anything indoors. I would think you would want ear protection on anytine you are indoors. With that said I would think you could use 38s in a 357 and get the results you are looking for. Another thought might be to try a bow. At those ranges I would think a bow would work, just no DRT shots.
hope this helps,
Mark

The P210 would probably meet your accuracy requirements. Can you?

If you are set on getting another gun, why not get a "air-powered" rifle in .25 or .30 and call it good. The sound of bullet discharge is not too loud and the bullet weight is not so great as to carry for great distances (should you have a shoot-through).

Best of luck.

Karl

I have had several Sig P-226 and P-220 in 9mm and 45 that will easily meat or beat your accuracy requirements, but I would not consider either very quiet. A Contender in .410 gauge might be quite effective for your needs.
