Newbie question about Browning BLR .243

That is a custom Mauser 98 in birdseye maple with knurled walnut grip cap/forend. This ia a Weatherby MV, German made (Sauer) in maple with rosewood cap/forend:

2MG,
Your original question was about accuracy, not looks. Looks are always subjective. Honestly, I don't care much for the A-Bolt or the newer BLR's. The original question wasn't about controlled round feed, camming or extraction power, bedding, floating barrels, nothing technical. Accuracy was what you asked about. BTW, the little plastic bushing in the gear is an easy enough fix, there are brass replacements IF it should ever be a problem. Most aren't. Regarding accuracy, again, the holes get measured the same way regardless of the action they were fired from. With the state of firearms manufacturing being in the sad way it is today most factory bolt rifles suffer from the same sorry trigger and most won't shoot any better than a good BAR, BLR, or Remington 7600. You have some nice rifles by the way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

BHKLBAMA, How are you comparing the A-bolt trigger to that of a lever gun? They are totally different concepts.

When the helll did I compare any 2 triggers?? I said A-bolts triggers arent always crisp.

GC----I can't agree about most factory bolt guns suffering from the same bad triggers. Some are good, some aren't. Most all are better than any lever action triggers. I also don't agree with most only shooting as good as your average BLR or BAR or 7600. This one here has shot sub 1/2" groups at 200yds. The trigger is set at 19 ounces, and still goes lower. It is better than any Timney, Moyers, or Rifle Basix I've yet seen. It is 100% stock, except the fluted bolt.........

I shot a 3/8" 200yd group with it the first day out with factory Win Supreme 140gr BST's. The next 2 shots went through a 6pt and an 8pt. Have lots of handloads to try in it. Just haven't got around to it yet.....

This one here is also factory(bottom pic), adjusted the trigger to a crisp 2.5lbs, painted the stock. It will shoot under 1" at 200yds and maybe better, haven't toyed with it enough yet. Am twisting up some loads for it now.........

The other 2 rifles are custom jobs.......

Not a standard carbine or lightweight Remington 700, Ruger M77, Winchester M70 in the bunch. BTW, that's a "single" example right... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

The Sako is close to carbine length. Barrel is 20.5" or something. This rifle is a Rem Model 7 in 204 Ruger with a 20" barrel, I think it qualifies.......

Yes?

just got off the phone with a buddy his brother is selling one of his bar 243 out of his collition never been shot before think you could buy it for 550.00

No, but thank you for the offer, my 243 is shootin' just fine....

And no Bama, I don't save targets, like I said, saved this one for a bud because he wanted to know how well the rifle shot. He's shot 3 deer with it in the last 2 years now.......

Yes, it qualifies... if it were factory unmodified. Apples to apples. I mean the BLR's, BAR's, and 7600's we're kicking around are factory stock models without tweaking bedding, new stocks, floating barrels, lapping lugs, usually the handloads for the non-bolts are more simple and full length resized. Aren't we splitting a pretty fine hair here? Basically anything under 1 1/2" at 100 from the rest with a sporter weight carbine or rifle gets about whatever job done that the firearm is suitable for. About equal in applicable accuracy across the board for rifles in the same classification. Be it semi-auto, slide action, single shot, lever action, and toss the bolt gun in there as the same, if it shoots about the same size groups - then they are equal in performance. Again... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
