So why are you still using NF optics??

While they are nice scopes the glass is no where near what people try to make them out to be!!

That's your opinion. I think they are fantastic!! They are the best glass I can afford right now. I eventually would love to step up to a premier. And by the way they are people make them out to be and some!

it's not just the glass, NF has the reputation with their turret system, tracking and return to zero, IMHO this is more important that super good glass!!! careful on the premiers, I was thinking along the same lines, did some research, and heard some not so good things about the thickness of the tube, even had a buddy come out to pick up his can and said he had his premier go down while out shooting, something you definitely don't need.

No maybe not, but there plenty that are worse and people make them out WAY better than they really are...

dm,
If you don't like your NF scopes why don't you list them in the classifieds here or on Sniper's Hide?
The re-sale value on them is pretty good.

Lots of folks like them.

IIRC, that 'issue' was due to the extremely precise tolerances engineered into Premier Heritage's internal parallax adjustment mechanism. When torqued beyond or even right at recommended spec (20 in/lbs.), the main tube would flex just enough (like ANY scope tube does), causing the parallax movement to bind. So, I guess if you could call too tight a tolerance a design flaw, then it was at the time.
Regardless, that 'issue' has since been rectified on subsequent models. On the few 1st edition scopes, it was a quick turnaround repair with no out of pocket expense. Mine never had that issue...

And f.w.i.w., my Premier scopes absolutely blow my NXS scopes out of the water, regarding brightness, clarity, eyebox & overall pleasant viewing to my eyes, as well as ergos in general. Considering they both track just the same (spot on TRUE), the Premiers are schizzle for my nizzle...

As always, it pays to do your homework when you are droppin' coin on a scope. Snoop around, you'll get the good, and you'll DEFINITELY get the bad too

But find me a scope brand that doesn't ever fail and I'll sell you some oceanfront property in Wyoming for pennies on the dollar...

xactly what I was talking about and I 100% agree with the glass quality as well, the Premiere is very good, I just acquired a new Razor 5-20X50 with the EBR-2B and the glass on that is better than my MKIV's and NXS's IMHO, now its time to test the turrets.

except I got the Razor, its a bit of a step up from the viper models, the Razor is retailing for over 2K, but it comes with all the bells and whistles, ZS, FFP, Ill. ret, 35mm tube... should push out a review once I get her pounding steel.

I'm hoping good... so far I've been really impressed with most of the Vortex products I've looked through, from the Viper's up to the Razors.

I like my nightforce but I cant wait to hear about that razor...still don't know anyone with one. When do we get the full report skinney?

I agree, to a point... There is much better glass out there for similar money. There is also "similar" glass out there for less money (No it is not in the $200 class scopes!) NF is sooo popular, most guys think they are the answer to everything (I want to die everytime I hear "you can't go wrong with a NF"). Not everyone needs a four wheel drive vehical & not everyone needs a heavy duty scope. Understanding what you will use the scope for & what the "specialties" each scope provides should be known before one decides what scope he/she "needs".

Don't get me wrong. NF reputaion was earned and they are one he!! of a tool. As I said in my previous post, they are decent glass (well, I should say they are good glass, it's just not "good" when compared to the other $1600 class glass) but they are the best mechanically. It's not about the glass for some, a scope is so much more than just an optic. It's just that not all people will ever NEED a scope built as tough, for those, there are lighter, brighter, smaller, bigger, & even cheaper options (NO THEY ARE NOT ALL QUALITIES WRAPPED INTO ONE SCOPE, each scope has seperate qualities & built as such)).

Nice looking setup BBsteel.

I'm a big fan of NF Scopes. This photo is one of the first NF NXS F1 3-15x50mm.

I havn't either, but been looking. It may just take a little while. I'm still waiting for him to send me some pictures of multiple "sub .5 MOA" groups with some of his "under $300 rifles" from a year ago...
