NASA, pretty simple, Jack Cain ( Circe Calls ) had barber shop over in Goodyear a few miles from base. Bill Dudley worked on base and I was introduced to him and thru him to JC. I asked JC why the calls were made from the wood they were ( Birch) JC said the only reason was birch turned and machined well, I think some dowel turning machines were used, I then asked about making some out of fancy wood and he said go ahead, give me diamention of drill, base machine shop turned step drill and drilled all our calls we made, we made them on wood lathe at base hobby shop using same dimention as original Circes, took them to JC and he installed reeds. BTW he got his reeds in paper cans with metal lids from Wintress that made them as voices in Dolls, the reeds as they came would blow shut if you really got on them, he would bend lip down on one side so reed could not blow shut and gave the Circe sound. I'm sure winning second place in Arizona field and second place in Arizona championship, then running 4th in world contest even though they only gave trophy to 3 places helped my relationship with Jack Cain, or maybe no one else showed as much interest as I did- plus being friends with Bill Dudley helped.
