Rounded Up 15 Illegals ZToday

Actually Broncoglen, alot of the illegal aliens pay taxes. They use fake SS cards to get work in mostly construction and manufacturing jobs here in Phoenix. One of the reasons that they're not taken back once they get here is that all of that tax money that they pay (social security, unemployment, etc.) is free money to the government. They can't collect any of it when they retire. They can't collect unemployment when they're laid off. And they work they're asses off at some of the worst jobs that are out there. If Americans wanted those jobs, I'm sure they would be applying for them. I know I sure don't want to pick cabbage all day for $25.00. Do you?
Unless you're an Aztec or an Inca, your ancestors got here the same way as these folks. They came here by boats instead of on foot, but they all came here for a better life. They faced the same crap that we're giving the Mexicans. Whether immigrants are legal or illegal, we still give them crap for wanting a better life because we somehow feel that they're taking something away from us by doing it.
Besides, the way all of our jobs are going to Mexico, we might have to migrate south of the border to find work. Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass.

TonLocus, there is a flaw in your theory. I used to work with illegals that would brag about it. They would have a fake card etc but would claim like 10 dependants so the government would take out very little. And when April rolled around, you think they were actually filing????

Her in Colorado the mexican population grew 75% since the last census. I see that as a problem. They want a better life they should fix their country and quit pooping out kids. They come to the USA to expolit it, not embrace it.
 
Now back on topic a bit. I heard something about illegal immigration that got me to thinking. There are many appologists out there that justify illegal immigration with the rational that this activity is justified due to the positive contribution that they make to society with their cheap labor. However the other side of the coin revolves around the fact that they occupy the very lowest rung of the ecenomic ladder. The very rung that places a huge drain on the government through their need for many social services that a higher paid employee pays for him/herselves. There is a very compelling arguement that this cheap labor force does nothing other than displace the cost of health care and other social services from the employee to the government requiring ALL of us to compensate through our taxes.

Another arguement againsrt illegal immigration and farm or factory workers it this. Cheap labor actually holds back the modernization of the factories and farm equipement that would eventually reduce the over all costs associated with mainaining a payroll. If this cheap work force was not available factories and modern farm equipement would modernize and replace day laborers.

Since when do you, I or anybody "claim dependants" in regards to pay-roll taxes? True, you do "claim" exempt, 0, 1, 2, etc. on your W-2 when you start a job, but it has little to do with the total number of children you have. The fact that you do or don't have children however, will be relevant to what you claim. But that's a different deal than itemizing deductions on an income tax return. I'm no CPA, but I don'tthink they're getting any great advantage given the scenario you put forth.

I'm with you to a point. You're absolutely correct that there are very few people who can lay claim to being "original Americans." And yes, some people have always looked down on immigrants, regards of whether they were coming from Ireland, China, Sweden, or Lebanon. Seems almost human nature sometimes to pick on the new guy. However, there is a vast difference between someone who gets off the ship, plane, train, car and reports to INS and follows the protocol and law of their host country, in comparison to someone who slinks his or her way across the border, not giving a damn about the rule of law or adverse effects on the "native"population, just so long as they get theirs. Doesn't this kind of attitude provide ample proof of their intentions? And believe me, I know ofthat which I speak. A good portion of my agencies caseload consists of undocumented aliens from Mexico and points south. They (not all illegals, just speaking of those I deal with) come up here, get in trouble with the law, and aren't even sent packing then, and we have to babysit them, largely at taxpayer expense. If things get too hot to handle for them, they hightail it back to Mexico, and there's not a whole lot we can do about it.

In all fairness, there are some who are some ofthe most compliant probationers you could ever hope for. Maybe because they're sufferingunderthe dillusion that we could actually get the INS to ship them back ifthey misbehave, I don't know. But it shouldn't even be an issue, should it? I mean, you're in a country illegally,and the justice system bends over backwards to "rehabilitate" you, when you shouldn't even be here inthe first place. I tell you what, ifthe situation were reversed, and you or I were caught committing a crime down in Mexico, may Heaven help us...

In my view this post was largely just baiting, trying to get the stink to raise to the top of the boiling pot. In short Mike McD. was exactly correct in his actions. Illegal immigration is a real problem down here. Lets just leave alone the economic problems associated with it. You should see the damage done to the desert and to peoples properties. Cloths, water bottles, shoes, back packs, human waste pretty much cover desert that was almost untouched just a few years ago. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my very own eyes. This is not only a legal problem it is an environmental disaster in the making.

Not to mention watching 8 people pore out of a car and run after a car accident. You don’t think that we aren’t paying the price for uninsured drivers.

Scatter, when you claim 10 exemptions on your W2, this would come to light when you filed your taxes and you would be required to pay more seeing as to how your dependants never existed. The more exemptions you claim, the less the government takes out. I for example have to claim 0 for atleast 6 months, then 1 for the remaining because when it comes April I would not have paid enough taxes since i have no children, and do not own a house etc. If i claim 1 all year i have to pay in April. So the mexicans claim 10 and when it comes April, they owe a lot but don't pay or file.
 
187, everthing is written in mexican these days. Just look at a Gatorade drink. I bought one the other day and it was called "Gatorado" or something to that effect. The companies in this country are guilty because they changed their marketing to lure in the mexicans to buy their stuff just to turn another dime. Every messaging phone system out there says "dial 1 for english, blah, blah, blah for espanol".

This is the United States of Mexico anymore. I read a month ago that Mexicans are outnumbering the blacks now a days.
 
I made my first trip to SE Arizona and man was I in for a shock. The landscape , which I love, is breathtaking from afar. When you get in it you find hundreds of plastic bottles, backpacks, clothes, etc. I can see where the rub lies. I worked beside some illegals, they worked hard, lived several families to a house, then went back and helped out those at home. I don't have a problem with this except that it is illegal, they need to go through the proper channels, just as my non-potato growing ancestors did, then they can get taxed and still paid pennies to build somebodys railroad, or shoe somebody's horse. Everybody here, had to overcome some obstacle, and to stay here they had to do it Legally. I think that Mike McDonald had the greatest idea yet, which goes something like this. Hire Mexican immigrants to guard the border, if you catch an illegal inside the border give him the job of keeping others out, until you catch another one.

You know guys, you all have made excellent points on why illegal immigration is a problem. I don't much like it myself. But if you think that our ancestors all got here legally you're kidding yourself. Where do you think the word wop comes from (without papers). That said, how in the world could you blame them for doing it? Wouldn't you? If you had a family that had no place to live, or nothing to eat, what would you do to provide for them? Whether it was legal or not, I'd be doing something about it. And Michael, let me ask you something. If you just walked across the desert and needed to take a dump, where in the hell do you think you would accomplish that task? I didn't see any J-Johns out in the desert the last time I looked. And I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that it wasn't the wetbacks that left washing machines and computer screens filled with bullet holes in the desert around Phoenix. I don't begrudge anyone their right to a better life, as long as their willing to pay the price to keep it.

Theyy just passed a law a couple of weeks ago requiring a voter to show ID. Talk about an uproar! How dare they require a person to prove who they are when they vote.

I seems the Mexican vote is a force to be reckoned with in Arizona and California.

this semester in my anthropology class, this same discussion was brought up. Our professor stated that "the largest minority group in the US currently is hispanic and growing". He went on to say that anaylists have predicted in 10-15 years that 90% of California's population will be hispanic! (Hispanic is defined as at least 1/4% spanish). Mexico will probably want their land back pretty soon! I have heard people at my work talk about the new law to register and allow voters to vote. I can asure you that they are pretty good at getting across the boarder and even better at getting what they want by "no comprendo". Beckie
 
I don't have a problem with people wanting to improve their lot in life. I have a problem with people improving their lot in life with MY blood sweat and tears. If you want to live here, you need to do it legally. You need to pay taxes. You need to buy your own place to live. You need to pay for your own food. You need to learn the language. And the language is ENGLISH. You are not ENTITLED to anything. I don't care what color you are, you need to pull your own weight. Classes for english as a second language are alright. Printing ballots in spanish is b*ll sh*t.(Or any other language, english excepted, for that matter). I've met many immigrants who work their butts off to succeed and benefit society. Those are the ones we want. If you're looking for a handout, get the hell out of my country.

Snowbound - Well actually "NO", but thanks for asking. I may be big but my mother named me Michael and I give nobody permission to change the name that my mother gave to me. My wife calls me Michael, my friends call me Michael, my co-workers call me Michael, my boss ... well my boss calls me Mike and as long as he allows me to go to work each and every day he can call me anything he wants. I type this with a sence of humor and understanding, you just never know what is important to people, this is why I very rarely alter a posters screen name. That is until lately, some screen names are simply too long to type over and over again, R-T-B is a perfect example of a name that I will tend to shorten, but if he complains I will follow his lead and type his full name everytime.
 
While reading this thread I couldnt stop shaking my head. So much ignorance in such a small place. Maybe its just a sign of "mob mentality" or "the good ol boys" but do you really believe that crap your typing about "them Mexicans"?
They come here to WORK for the most part. Sure there are sorry examples that exploit the system and give the rest this bad sterotype, but I can show you as many poor examples of any other race here.(including the "whites") As has been stated, the majority of our ancestors SNUCK into this country originally, (and all of them were not upstanding individuals), but its convienient now for you to say that nobody else should be able to do the same. You can go to ANY unemployment office this Spring-Summer and find plenty of folks standing in line for their handout. They arent even trying to get the landscaping, fruit picking, hard labor/low pay jobs that are filled mostly by "them Mexicans"
Americans are in love with convienence, and as long as "them Mexicans" make that possible they will be allowed/encouraged to enter the U.S.A. Its now that they are starting to have "political clout" that folks are getting upset. I agree that English should be the language of this country, but not because people speaking Spanish offends me, but rather because by not having to learn English "them Mexicans" limit their own opportunitys to achieve the American dream. My father is a first generation American (his mother gave birth to him in this country after crossing the Rio Grande) He is the only male in his family of 9 that finished school. (His brothers worked and pooled their money to allow that to happen) He started out "picking fruit" and working side jobs that nobody else wanted to help raise money to go to college. With the help of scholarships he made it. He retired a few yrs back from Handford/Rockwell as a NUCLEAR ENGINENEER!! He helped build Nuclear weapons and technology that THIS country uses now to insure that we remain the greatest country on the planet and the place everybody else wishes they were. The future is bright for "them Mexicans" so you better hope they are kinder to you when they are the majority, than you were to them when you where. Besides, the entire SW was once Mexico, its no wonder so many want to come home. Take care.
