running coyotes with trucks and c.b. radios

I've never heard of anyone doing this around here in Southeast Missouri...too much small privately owned properties, fences and obstacles to try it,plus You can't hunt with lights at night!

It was happening in Central MO, at least before I moved away four years ago....Most of them were the farm property owners and adopted it as an after church Sunday afternoon get together...One of them asked if I wanted to join them and I respectfully declined...

they do it a lot here, I don't participate, but they sure kill a lot of them dang things, I want more red fox, not possible with this many coyotes here. Hopefully the distemper hurt them real bad, all I get are big old males, others are dead.

Use of CB, Mobile Transmitter or Phone
You cannot use a two-way mobile radio trans- mitter to communicate the location or direction of game or furbearing animals, or to coordinate the movement of other hunters. (See the defnitions of one-and two-way mobile radio transmitters in previous column.)
Exceptions: Coyote hunters may use two-way transmitters, except during the two regular gun (shotgun) deer seasons. A falconer may use a one- way mobile transmitter to recover a free-fying bird of prey that is properly banded and covered on a falconry permit. Hunters with dogs may use a one- way mobile transmitter to track or aid in the recov- ery of the dog.

Sorry, this is news to me. I guess coyotes are not furbearing animals now... so why do I need to get a hunting license or furbearers license to hunt or trap coyotes then? I know my CO has given a few tickets for this before. I will bring this up to him but I do know all CO's have different regulations they go by. Any who you won't see me doing this chit....

Lots of it done around here. I don't like them either. I don't know how many times we've called the law on them for trespassing. I mean, how fun is it to shoot into a bunch of brush, turn your dogs loose, and maybe get to them in time to watch them tear the coyote to pieces? I've never done it and never will. These guys are "hunters" in my book.

It is a fact of life here. I don't care too much if they have permission but lots of times they don't. What I don't like is when they shoot into sloughs , ravines , weed patchs , ect. to get a coyote going that they have even seen yet. I might be there in white trying to call one and have to hit the dirt to save my rear end. We used to hunt fox this way but always had some one walking in to jump and trail. The best exercise you can get and they just do it from the seat of a truck/quad/snowmachine. Legal so I accept it but not my cup of tea. Jim

I agree 100%. Just like hunting any other game, you need to have permission and it should (IMO) at least be somewhat sporting.

There used to be a group that ran greyhounds near us, apparently killing some young livestock and destroying fences. Some farmer got fed up and shot their dogs, and they got hit with some heavy fines for the livestock/trespassing.

Yeah, there's a group like this where I grew up (Northwest Ohio) and what they do is cut a track, surround the section with trucks, guns, and cb's or phones and push the animal till it gets shot. About the only chance it has is if it finds a hole. Funny thing is, they hunt deer the same way. If there is a buck that doesn't make it to a safe (posted) property..........it's dead. Not my cup of tea. They're killers, not hunters. This is why I always laugh when I hear of one of them killing a nice deer, because that's all it is, killing.

I agree wholeheartedly. The hunt is what I really enjoy, the kill is a momentary adrenaline rush that punctuates the trip. There's a huge difference.

Running yotes with trucks, hunting bear over bait, turkey hunting with a rifle ? To each their own I reckon

There is a group near me that does it with hounds. I've about given up on the calling game around here as they kill a bunch of dogs and cover a lot of ground in the process.

I know some of my relation was pretty "impressed" by their ability to rut the heck out of a bunch of their fields in short order last weekend.

I know a few of these guys and they are still at it but they have expanded into other counties and dont seem to be in the same areas as years past. I have also discussed this practice with game wardons and they dont seem to think that it is even happening (trespasing, use of moter vehecle, hunting and shooting from roadway). How is it possible they dont know? I have been told but have no idea if its true, that there was a conservation officer hunting with one of these groups. Not to mention my cousin in Il. who owns property that has complained to law inforcement about this practice and is told that "dogs cant read"! I gaurantee that if they would ask him for permission he would say yes and ask if he could tag along.

I suppose your against trapping to. Nothing wrong with hunting bears over a bait.

Next time I hear about guys in areas wear some of you all whiners live, getting ready to turn a pack of dogs loose on a coyote. I'll try and get you an invite. They can drop ya off where the race starts. And when ya figure out after ya sweat off 10 lbs. And if there is anything upstairs, quickly figure out that coyote races very often cover 20 miles quite easily. You all might change your tune.

In the mean time keep tearing another mans sport up HSUS and all the tree huggers need all the help they can get.

Bring em on up to run through fences and livestock and ill shoot their dogs just the same and see who is whining then. You're obviously one of the trespassers not smart enough to figure it out!

Im not to sure that i would do much sweating pushing a gas pedal and turning a steering wheel but if its that hard on you tuff guy maybe you should ask permision and get out and walk a little bit! Its not about tearing down another mans sport at all. As long as its done within the law but most of these guys are not!

I lost 15 lbs in just a few months using this method its a tough way to hunt but who ever said hunting was easy if u really want to loose weight turn your heater up to high I just had mine on medium. in warm weather it is a must to have a cooler full of budlight cans not bottles ,bottles tend to break from time to time. and in the evenings early morning make sure to have headlights turned off they seem to be more spooky when they are on. these are all the tips I learned in all the hard years of hunting I did.
