Utards??

If you worked on the Mule deer winter range like I do you wouldn't have to ask why! A heII of a lot of them act like they own the country they chase deer trying to get a shed. they park in the middle of the road to glass and won't move I pick up beer cans off the roads all winter long, and quite a few of our big bucks have ended up in Utah after the season has ended Poached. And I know thats true cause they have caught some of them . That being said we have our share of A holes but I'd say 80 percent of our pop. is from some where else. very few home grown folks I'm a spud but have been here 30 years and have raised my kids here..........You want to be welcomed here use your manners and pick up your garbage. Oh and by the way you can't pick up sheds till the 1st of May............

They will drive the ATVs all over the woods every fence line etc. We had a group chase a group of buck over 4 miles one day from one spot to the next. They were intentionally following the group in the sage flats hoping to get a shed. I know not all are that way, but still it is getting worse and it will not be long before we have a shed season and loose our privledges as well.

I will also admit that we have Coloturds working on this problem with out the added pressure of Utah folks here as well.

That is about my own issue. I also caught a few that came to CO to hunt yotes etc. with out a Colorado Tag. The one was a guy and son. They had no idea and thought CO was like Utah, and were thankful for the heads up. They decided to head back over to the Utah side. The other 3 guys were jerks told me shut and they would do what they want. I of course have the local DOW officer on cell phone so I called gave location, description, etc. and he came out that after noon caught up with the guys and cited all for hunting with out a lic. 3 weeks later he caught the drive in CO with a bobcat. Again I know it is not all, but in this case 1/2 the guys were jerks.

This and the drivers, also we have our biggest problems with tresspasing during shed time with the ones from Utah no respect for where they are or what they are doing, some don't pay to close of attention to they regulations as to units open for hunting so a good many trophy unit animals are killed with OTC tags that any other person would need to put in for 20 years for. Other than that good people abound in Utah never heard Utards till now.

I dont live that close to the wyo utah border to comment on the Utard comment. But do you know how to tell when it is spring time in wyoming? When the licsense plates turn green. LOL Now colo. is changing the color of there plates. I have had run ins with people from all over the united states and some good expireences. I really have the biggest problem during the winter from people hunting coyotes. They seem to think no one cares about hunting coyotes or maybe that no one will be out that time of year. I get angry to find somone hunting on land I have permission hunt because I have earned it by working with the land owner and helping them out. To target one certain state I think there are good and bad apples anyplace.

Around here it is the Texans. I had a pair of them pass me in a turning lane the other day, like I was standing still. I mumbled under my breath, never seen that happen before and I'll be a monkey's uncle, the next day the same thing. I couldn't believe my eyes. Usually the city police are sitting there running radar, and he was nowhere around.
They drive slow during the summer when the roads are dry and in the winter when it is iced up and snowing, they haul A$$ trying to get to the ski resorts. You can't ski if you are upside down in the ditch, RIGHT?

This may be the problem right here, 98-01 assuming (pretty safely) you mean 1998 to 2001 is included in 96 to present, assuming (again pretty safely) you mean 1996 to the day you posted (that being the present at that moment)

Praying you hit the wrong button and meant 06 to present, but, you are currently residing in Utah, so it isn't a far stretch to say you may be Utarded and posted the dates correctly with how you think.

I know this has nothing to do with hunting song dogs, but I have been takeing goose hunters from Utah for the last 3 yrs here in southeastern wyoming. I have had nothing less then great times with them. I really enjoy spending the day in the pit with them. When I tell them after the hunt that I am going to try to call some dogs, a few of them come with me on the afternoon hunt if you will. I agree that each state has some bad apples, but everyone from Utah that I have spent some time with is good in my book.

The true answer with the overpopulated western states like Utah, Idaho, Montana and to a lesser extent Nevada is for California to fix their mess and quit forcing every tax payer to flee their state.

Hunting in Utah and to a lesser extent fishing is getting tougher and tougher in Utah. You can't take a Utard out and show him a good spot or 10 of his friends will be out there the next weekend. This is why there are very few good hunters in the state. On one hand they complain about all the rookies out their ruining their stands, but on the other hand they can't teach them either. If someone is kind enough to show you the "how to's" never ever return to his spot or disclose the locale to your 10 Utard buddies.

Seems like most places I've been sorta developed "local rules" concerning how things are done. If things are done "outside the box", then the person doing is is seen as "stupid". And the shoe may or may not fit.

For an example, if someone brought a tree stand to southern Arizona, they'd likely have a hard time finding a mesquite tree tall enough to use it. The locals would laugh at the idea, but I know of one guy who used one on an old power pole, and actually got a deer with his bow that way.

If I took a ground blind to an area where tree stands were "the rule", they'd likely laugh at me the same way.

"The rules" can include local common courtesy, and even knowing the state laws of the state you're visiting. Colorado folks don't like Texans because they've seen too many of them leave gates opan and such. Not all do it, I'm sure, but enough to give them all a bad reputation.

And once something like that starts, it gets repeated often enough to keep it going.

We were up hunting elk near Salida, Colorado many years ago when an "Albuquerque Low" moved in. It dumped a lot of snow, and stranded a few hunters. Most were having a hard time getting into areas to hunt, but dad had a Ford 4x4, 4 tire chains, and a 460 under the hood. We went just about anywhere we wanted if we could make out a road.

Towards the end of the season, we were up near Monarch Pass when a local fella pulled up and started making small talk. He said something about wanting to hunt up in Squah Creek, and along the Colorado Trail, but that no one had been able to get in there since the storm hit.

When dad mentioned that we'd been all over that country just that morning, the guy walked around and looked at the license plate on the truck.

Then he said, "OHHHH!!! You're those crazy sons-of-*** from Arizona that everyone's been talking about!"

I sometimes wonder what sort of legends or demonizations dad started on that trip that might still be floating around about Arizonans.

Yeah, I meant to say from 98-01 (Stationed at Hill) and then moved back voluntarily 06 to present.
Thanks

LOL! That's a great story Daryl. Reminds me of my Dad. You're absolutely right though. It's all a matter of "Opinion" based on your life experiences. Good Hunting!

How is this only in Utah? Are you kidding me there are people like this in every state. I do know a guy from price that is not the sharpest tool I think he even believed his own lies he told me that he killed a at least one coyote a week with his .410 and bird shot that he called right up to his truck! I don't think it has anything to do with him being from Utah though..

Very true people like that aren't only from Utah even though there are a lot of hunters in Utah...

I think one overlooked aspect of this discussion is how the $$ creates conflict between states. A state has good hunting or enough $$ to launch a subtle media campaign to make everyone think they do. What happens; outfitters spring up who make their living off out of staters. Few who live there are going to pay them to take them hunting. In areas where there is little public land high wire kiddie ranches spring up where "hunters" hunt "native" African species. They fly in, walk up to animals that just stand there and look at you, pick the one they want, shoot it and tell the owners to keep the meat and send the head to them for their "trophy" room. The owners of these places consider the animals they raise the same as a farmer planting crops.

State wildlife agencies don't help either. They create animosity between states. I've heard Iowa just raised a non-resident bow tag to $1500! What kind of hunters do you think will be hunting there? Another case, I live in IL. I have 18 acres of land in a semi-rural area with a nice 7 year old house. The minimum land requirement to get a free landowner tag in IL is 40 acres. My tax bill is over $6,000 a year. My neighbor has an old farmhouse on 40 acres. It is a garbage pit. House hasn't been painted in 50 years, barn falling in. Garbage and junk all over the yard. She (70 year old woman) lets all kind of undesireables hunt there. If they shoot a deer, she will put her free landowner tag on it for them! Her tax bill? $2,000. OK, so I have family and want to move to MO. I buy 466 ac of land. I buy a brand new John Deere 6430 tractor, a used Ford 9000 Turbo tractor, a loader, a 9' Bush Hog blade, a John Deere 200 disc, a 4 bottom plow, and an Earthway spreader. I buy all my own seed, fertilizer, and fuel to put in food plots. In MO, you only have to own 5 acres to get a landowner (resident) tag! As a non-resident landowner, I was able to get 1/2 price tags, until last year. Now, I am treated the same as any non-resident. Seems the MO DNR was short on cash and was going to raise the resident permit costs. The residents threw a hissy and the solution was to stick it to the non-residents to spare the residents. While the fees are reasonable to non-residents, it's not at all fair to non-resident landowners.
MO will be waiting a looong time before I bother putting in any food plots, habitat restoration or anything else to benefit the residents who own five acres, do nothing and get free tags. They're their deer. Let them feed 'em. I can sell all my equipment, put 150-200K in my pocket and not worry about doing any of the work. I have owned the property for 7 years, have bought a spring turkey and fall deer tag every year and have only hunted twice for turkey and have never taken a turkey or (obviously) deer. Now, I will just hunt whatever I can hunt for free on my own property, and may in fact sell it; or I can just buy 5 acres if I ever do move there and get free tags!

I have lived in southern Utah the majority of my life and i think that Utard is actually funny. We all have to be from some where. We have nicknames for other states too. I agree people don't know how to drive in our state most of them are from up north, I have run into alot of people hunting that think they own every piece of land you try to hunt. All we do is just keep going, the majority of TRUE hunters aren't like this.If I ran into any of you in the hills I would be nice and helpful and the majority of people in this state would also. There is always gonna be bad apples in every state We have alot of them living in St.George that is where the cocky, arrogant, and disrespectful hunters are in our State. Hopefully this didn't offend any body, cause we are all in it together. If it did you must be from St.George and you need to get your lazy butts out of your rhinos and try to hunt like real hunters do , which is on foot or horse back, cause you are the reason the Forest service and Blm is going to outlaw Atvs Just a thought.

We were driving through Utah with my cousin when he told us about his teacher who was from Utah, calling Utahns Utards. Then on our way back we went through Idaho and tried to attach the -tard suffix. Idatard doesn't work as well.
