What sounds do you want?

The purpose for this thread is two fold. I wanted to provide an answer to questions asked in another thread about why our cartridges for the PM-3 were designed the way they were. Additionally, I want to give you the opportunity to provide some input for our consideration as to what kinds of groupings of sounds you want made available for use in the PM-4.

I would like to offer an explanation of the thought process that went into the crafting of the sounds offered on the Preymaster cards. There were 5 Coyote specific cartridges provided as well as 2 General predator and 4 species specific cartridges (2-fox, Bobcat and Raccoon).

Due to the fact that these cartridges were designed for a 1 slot playback device, it was my intention to provide a collection of cartridges that would also allow a user to have not only a prey species sound, but also a coyote vocalization of some kind on the Coyote specific cartridges. There are 4 cartridges that offer 3 distress sounds and 1 coyote vocalization (none of which are the same). The 5th cartridge is of only coyote sounds. The species specific cartridges make available sounds that are particularly enticing to those specific species.

The cartridges were designed to give the users diversified choices for changing needs for a one slot playback unit.

With the introduction of the multi slotted PM-4, future cartridge configurations will gravitate towards groupings of sounds (ex: All Cottontails, all birds or all canines, etc, etc). The user will then be able to better mix and match cartridges to the three slots available on the PM-4 giving them greater flexibility in their choices at each calling stand.

Here is your chance to contribute. The URL for this thread will be provided to the powers that be at Hunters Specialties so they can consider your input. What say you..........

Sounds like the plan you have now will work out just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks for the explantion on why those cards are set up the way they are.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We have a great Pheasant Distress #126 sound that should be on a cartridge. I hope that HS will chose to make all of the sounds available at some point. Right now it is a matter of cost versus sales. A Pheasant distress sound just is not in as much demand to justify the cost of digital mastering and inventory stocking. Let them know you want it though. The more they hear that, the more likey they will be to include it at some point.

Farm animal sound card.......piglet in distress, lost lamb, chicken in distress & lost kid goat.

*Thanks to you, Gerald and HS for giving hunters what we've wanted and needed.

It'd be nice if there was an all bird card with: Squealing Bird 116A, Baby Woodpecker 116B, Yellowhammer 116C, Meadowlark 117, and Chicken Distress Cries 112A.

Also it'd be good if there was a "super card" with the best of the best and most popular: Gray Fox Pup, Squealing Bird, High Pitch Cottontail...etc.

Why limit the sounds to the PM4? For years JS sounds were the best you could get. I killed 100's of coyotes with the Jackrabbit I think it was 101C and the Super Jack on tape players starting with one that took a gizzilion D cells and then I wore out a couple 512's. Those are only a couple I would love to have and be able to play on todays equipment. I think HS is missing the boat by not making the complete JS library available. After all people lined up to buy 1 sound on a tape. Just my thoughts!!!!!!

+1

I think they would make a killing if they offered a website where people could pay for and download the sounds in MP3 format. I would be there in a heartbeat downloading by the truckload. I really believe it would be worth the initial cost to get it set-up. Thanks for giving all of us the ability to offer our feedback, Gerald.

Just like the Robot Johnny 5 in the movie Short Circuit, I say....."more input.....give me more input"........

Good suggestions all...........except Jay. Do you want a card with 4 lip squeaks on it or just one long one? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am going to send this URL on Monday to Hunters Specialties so you guys need to say whatever you want about making sounds available in whatever form you need them. This was originally to be about PM-4 cartridges but if you want them in Mp3....this is your chance to be heard.

I have long wanted all of the JS sounds available for use on any caller but I am not the decision maker any longer. They need to hear it from you guys.

There would probably be a ton of revenue generated if guys could simply download the sounds. The home built caller guys would definitely be in seventh heaven.

Thanks Johnny 5.

Guess I should have clarified a bit.

Eastern Lip Squeaks
Western Lip Squeaks
Open Country Lips
Panic Lips
Sweet Thang Lips
Windy Lips
Lips of Death
Party Lips
Lips in the Thick Stuff
Lips in the Moonlight

You get the idea. You can take it from there.

Aw heck, I'll just keep doing it the old way.

I have too many cards to invest anymore. I think between the predator and crow cards I have ten, and then there are the deer cards. A I think there was one or two that was duplicated when I bought the pm 4. Having specific groups of sound on one card would have been nice, but I cant see myself buying more just for the convience.

I do wish there were more coyote howls available. I'd buy that one.
Female Invitation, estrus chirps, interrogation, challenge.

I do want some more blank remote cards. The three that came with just wasn't enough.

I have a strong resistance to putting out sounds that are man made if I can help it. If I could get those sounds from the real thing I would provide them. Maybe some day we can get them done by somebody who is really good at it and do it in a good recording atmosphere.

Contact HS for some of those blank tabs for the PM-4. I think they would probably be willing to send you some...maybe. Contact Joe Sahm at jsahm@hunterspec.com

How about
Lip squeaks,a good Coon Pups Dist,Bluejay Dist,Red Fox [beeep] in Heat,or like the arsenal cards. (1)Coon Pups (2)Coon Fight (3)Squealing Bird (4)Lip Squeak. just a thought. GS is it possable to see a complete list of JS Sounds????

My dream card follows, I'm away from home and can't remember the reference numbers but here are the original tape names:

Medium Pitched Jack.
Desperate Cries of a Cottontail
Yellow Hammer
Squealing Bird

For the budget minded that single card would take you a long ways.
I'd probably buy a PM4 if that single card were available. Load up a similar crow card and I'd probably never come home.....

A real neat feature that I think would be a great selling point in this day and age is to provide an on-line tool for people to customize cards to their heart's desire. For a flat fee you get to select any 4 sounds and place them on the card in the order you desire. Being as this is a custom card - read as not mass produced with the associated economies of scale - the price would obviously have to reflect this.

I'd imagine that it'd have to be done on line, it wouldn't be cost effective to HS or affordable to the consumer if they had to pay for the phone time required to communicate the configuration man to man. That said in consideration of how affordable the base call is.

JS sounds on customized sound cards? Now that right there is a fantastic idea. If a person could pick the 4 sounds of his choice in the order he wants them on a single sound card. PERFECT!! PERFECT!! PERFECT!!
My choice (for starters) would be
#1
Vittle's ala jack
Hurt pup distress
Grown cottontail
A bird distress. Probably yellowhammer

Of course I feel like I could call any coyote on the planet with just those four sounds. So I wouldn't need to buy any others /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Naw, I'd have to have a locator sound on another card along with Superjack, along with a diff bird, along with a juvy cotontail, along with, along with, along with. Aww yes, customized JS sound cards. Did I mention PERFECT somewhere?

Doggin nailed the hidden formula for success, with a completely different set of sounds. He probably calls and kills more coyotes than I could ever dream of but look at his recipe for success. A completely different set of sounds and/or cards. Plenty of room for marketing freedom!
