What you don’t know about ADC

Uncle Jay,
You may be ugly, but you are a long ways from stupid. Not very protective though. What did you do when that jackrabbit tried to run me over down there? You laughed, that's what you did.

That's a fair question. Mange is generally not self-healing. It is also very contagious. That makes the diseased animal a threat to your "future" recreation potential in that area. And if you're a fur taker, the threat can be devastating to the value of your anticipated harvest.

No, for the simple fact, Im not out calling this time of year, so I would never even know the poor devil was afflicted.
I also wouldn't fault anyone for doing so, mange is a horrendous condition, and I would look at the situation as merely putting an animal out of its misery, just as if it had a been hit by a car or was ill with some other disease.

Jay,
You must have been adding to your post at same time that I was answering it. In answer to your question regarding the shooting of summer coyotes, I shoot them whenever I want to. Coyote season never closes here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Rich,
I suppose I should confess after all this time. Me and the rabbit were friends and I put him up to it.

I don't get to shoot coyotes EVERYTIME I want to. Sometimes it's night, which makes it illegal. Sometimes they are in town or too close to a house. Sometimes I am on company business, the mrs. may be with me or a whole myriad of other excuses, but I manage to go out when the urge strikes, time permitting.

I am lucky enough, however, to have a special permit issued by the Great State of Arizony that entitles me to hunt coyotes whenever I want to (except for night) which is a pretty neat thing to have.

The mange thang came up while finishing up the filming for the new video, CCSI (Coyote Crime Scene Investigations). If you only knew....

OK Jay lol, you must have an ulterior motive for asking this question because there is no correlation between dispatching a coyote with advanced mange and killing a coyote with nursing puppies.
One ends untold suffering and one causes it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Rich,
It’s commonplace for me to never know what my motives ever were in the first place. But you already knew that.

I suppose that I am one of the more hardened or calloused individuals.

Can I justify the taking a wet [beeep] coyote and subject her pups to the possibility of starvation? Nope. But neither do I ignore things I never see like a mother coyote killing another’s mother leaving the other mother’s babies to starve? Aye, there’s the rub. Which is more cruel? A starving coyote or starving rabbit? Granted, neither is pretty and no matter how hard we may try, the killing of critters is never easily justified.

I’m not empathic. I leave that for others to fret. I will admit that there have been many times when I have questioned “WHY” I left the house at 4AM during the heat of summer as well as the coldest part of winter. And I will also say that not all coyotes are killed or shot at when I go calling nor have I ever believed that the taking of a wet [beeep] coyote is a mortal sin that will result in my eternal damnation.

I’ll leave philosophy to philosophers and merely quote a great hero of mine who once said…"Into each life a little rain must fall."

WHEW Rich! I haven’t made a post like this in a long time.

Indian! I seen a Indian! He wasn't on no Reservation neither. It were my sister's husband, and he were a good hunter. Poor guy died of cancer a couple of years ago.

So Jay, is your argument because the animals do it it is OK for you to do it? I thought humans had evolved sufficiently to be held to a higher standard. The animals copulate and defecate in public. Is it Ok for you to do it?
EEEEWWWWWW. Visual!!! I don't want to play this anymore.

"fish, some of us understood all you had to say and why. You have friends and supporters here that hope you continue to contribute."

Amen to that.

Well...To further kick a dead horse. I looked up the word "Professional" in the dictionary. The [word] has many definitions, one being "skilled".

That pretty well sums, that up to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
-------------------
BTW, I'd shoot the manged one [utter'd or not]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Since we are looking up definitions i thought i would meander through the dictionary on professional as well. Here are a couple of more definitions.

"Performed by persons receiving pay" Doesn't mention skilled just paid.

"exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace" This is what separates the boys from the men.

Th definition you selected is way too narrow. Try to apply that against professional athletes, who are among the most highly paid professionals in the world. Professional rock musicians? On and on.

Hell Rich, I thought adc guys were on the same plane as rock stars and athletes??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
