Which $1000 Scope

i've got a zeiss conquest 6.5x 20 that i hunt coyotes with 5 days aweek and really like it, is it to much for deer maybe. can you kill a deer with a 30-30, yes, then why is there so many custom guns on here, because we what them. so go get you a 1000.00 scope and have fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I might would put that on my .480 pistol, not on a custom 25-06 that will group around 3/8" moving bullets at 3500fps!
I would hate to get on the Nooner Ranch in Texas and them ask me what the heck did I think I was going to be hunting in a thicket with that 4x scope!

I just bought a 3x12x50 30mm Burris Euro-diamond with the luminated rectical.  I guarantee you'll be able to see your deer 1hr after sunset. Keep an eye on your watch or youll be shooting stuff after hours lol.On 12x you can see the barbs on a fence at 400yds.Do you need a 1k scope.  Heck no but its a heck'uv a lot more fun w/ one.  Always sell a guy what he wants not what you like.Ive always felt if you have time to turn the scope up and get a bigger look the more apt you are to make a good shot.If I could have got a sweet deal on a Swarvoski I would have probably bought one though.

Sure looks like you got plenty of suggestions.

Put the best scope you can afford on that rifle which meets the your shooting requirements and desires. Reticle selection certainly deserves a lot of thought, but these three scopes will give you the best light transmission. Swarovski, Ziess, or Leupold VX7 and if I'm not mistaken Ziess makes the glass for all three, but each has a different lens coating process that improves the light gathering qualities.

I have not yet been able to imagine the deer hunt in which I would feel under-scoped with a simple VXIII 3.5-10x40 and an M1 elevation turret.....

Just can't see why a 30mm tube and 50mm obj is needed on a deer rifle. Just unnecessary weight with no real benefit. JMO......

i see a huge difference between 40 adn 50 mm obj, i thought he stated that he was hunting in low light conditions. i wont have a 40mm on any deer hunting rifle i own anymore after changing over to 50mm for light gathering. My new ones will be 30mm tube and 50+ obj JMO Ron

I must not have liked them too much because I sold them! Just sold one of my 6500's too. If they didn't weigh so dang much I would save up for a Nightforce to get the illuminated reticle and great glass. I might just get me a 4-12x50 Swarovski A-Line and save some money and allot of weight.

Oh yea! Especially if you are hunting at any distance in low light. Up close it isn't going to make much difference. I noticed a difference in my 6500's with the 30mm tube and my buddies VX-III's with 1" tube. Truthfully in the east it is more about maximum light transmission and less about size and weight because most of our hunting is out of treestands or box blinds. Gets darker faster in the woods than in the wide open praires

I would get the Leupold VX III Boone and Crockett 4.5x14x40.

With the Boone and Crockett reticle you have very good reference points for 200, 300, 400, and 500 yd shots. Plus it will even save you a few hundred dollars.

I gotta agree with this, I got mine with the 50mm lens, varmint reticle for $545 out the door.

You need to select what power you will use in low light conditions. Multiply that by 6 or maybe 7 if you are a teenager. That is the maximum objective your eye can use, anything bigger is wasted.

All these posts on what is really a very simple problem, and not one of you got it right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Just get 1 of these (used) and be done with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Hey Leon,

Come into my office. We need to talk.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
How much do you want for the S&B????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have said make scope in 4x36, and it is, without question, THE VERY BEST 4x scope available. And, I hear that S&B is going to quit making them... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

End of sermon.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Agreed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
About as good of an all around package as you can get IMO.
I wouldn't be embarrased to take that scope on any Hi-Falutin, High Fenced ranch in Texas,, or anywhere else for that matter...

I don't know how far shots on the "Nooner" ranch are, and I guess it doesn't matter since I don't see me ever being interested in that type of hunt anyway...
To each his own though..

Good Luck

$1000? Id scoop up a slightly used MK4 M1 4.5-14x40. Should easily be able to find one for $800-850. Spend the rest on a quality set of rings/base.

Leupold doesn't make that scope. But you can send your VXIII 4.5-14x40 LR in and have them put the M1 knobs on. It will run you about what you said $800-$850 for the total package. Now you pretty much have a MK4, short of the double spring erector and a little beefier tube.
