Which drop away rest?

I bought a PSE Evo 6 at a Rocky Moutain Elk Foundation banquet and I need advise with which arrow rest to go with. On my 08 browning illusion I am shooting a Schaffer drop away but want to try a full capture rest on this bow. I am considering either a rip cord or a QAD. What do you guys like?

I have a Rip Cord and love it, this is the second bow I've had it on. I was shooting a Trophy Taker. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those two.

Does the fact that the rip cord drops when you have to let down cause problems? That is my primary concern, I like how it locks up before the shot, but I can see the arrow bouncing around on the shelf if I had to let down waiting for a better shot.

I had the ripcord on for a year and just went to the qad. The ripcord is a nice, well built rest but I wanted the lockup feature when I let down.

Limb Driver Pro V is my favorite. But I also have a Ripcord Code Red and had a QAD HD on a couple of bows too. Out of those two I prefer the Rip cord.

Doa, I was leaning towards the QAD, why do you like the rip cord over the QAD?
I have not looked at the limb driver, what makes it better?

The rip cord is very similar to the QAD in how they work. Never had an issue with the rip cord not getting out of the way before the fletching made contact. I assume rip cord must be a little quicker than the QAD. As mentioned, the problem with QAD and fletching contact can usually be fixed by installing the taller launcher arm. When QAD first came out they could get a little sticky. And the launcher could also bounce back up into the path of the arrow. Hence the "LD" or lock down model. And lastly the rip cord is 30 to 40 bucks cheaper.

I like the limb driver best for several reasons.
Because the arm is retracted by the upward movement of the limb, the arrow rides the rest longer and recieves more guidance, then at the last possible fraction of a second it is quickly pulled out of the way. As long as the bow limb goes up, the arm goes down.
I have purposely lengthened the cord to simulate stretch and it still shoots bullet holes through paper, still produces perfect groups and no point of impact change.
Most all other drop aways are driven by the upward movement of cable attatched to the lower cam.
Or single cam. Any stretch or creep by the bows cable or string system can affect the drop rate of the rest. On the early drop aways (non trip models like trophy takers, NAPs, etc.) we seen arrow impact slowly lower and eventually lose tune due to this stretch or creep. This however has become almost non existent due to the advances in string materials.
Hope this helped.

Oh, and also if the drop cord is too short and pulls tension on the bow cable it can slightly rotate the cam out of sync.
Or, (this is for all conventional or trip drop aways) if the cord is attached too high on the cable it will pivot and not allow the rest to time its drop correctly.
Ok I'm done now lol.

Awesome information!

Thanks DOA, last question then I'll leave you alone, does the long cord to the upper limb get in the way or caught on stuff? I mostly hunt spot and stalk and crawl a lot.

Thanks again for your time and expertise!

When I first started considering them the cord concerned me too, and actualy held me off putting one on my bow for awhile. But after thinking about it I decided it was no different than my string or cable. If I was to catch the cord on something I would have most likely caught a string or cable anyhow.
The coolest thing about the way the limb driver works is that you can replace or adjust the tension of the cord without changing the bows tune.

This is what i use, I went into my local bow shop planing on getting a drop away but after some discussion they let me know this was top of the line.

The schaefer had some issues that I didn't care for. Looks for one haha I know seems shallow huh. But the cool thing about archery is that everyone has their own tastes and ideas. What is perfect for one doesn't necessarily mean it's perfect for the next guy. I,ve learned that well in the 25 plus years I,ve worked in, or owned archery/gun pro shops.

That local shop didn't happen to be Pelligrinos Archery Hut did it? If so Bill and I have been very good friends for a very long time.

I have a QAD hunter pro rest on my hoyt ultratec and magnatec. I like the rest a lot but during a key down the aroow still bounces around making noise. I have the dampening cloth all over the rest but in the woods you know how loud a single breath can be.

Lol. I thought so. His staff really likes that rest.
He and I traveled together for the national tourneys and hunt together some. Been friends for nearly 20 years.

Salem, I assume your clearance issue is the vertical support that holds the containment cross bar?
PSE is not a very popular bow in my area so I dont see them often. But if i remember correctly the Evo has a upward offset cable guard rod, so sliding the rest back on it's mounting bolt might get you the clearance you need.
