Not sure if you understand what a bore guide is, might want to look them up and rethink if they are needed.

+1

I assure you, If your not using some sort of bore guide....You ARE doing more harm than good.

I hope that we all know that a coated rod and a bore-guide are two different things...both used to do a quality cleaning on a rifle but not the same piece of equiptment.

I knew that teacher. I use one in conjunction with the other.

Do I get to go to recess now?

I bought the Sinclair bore guide after I had my R700 rebuilt. I bought a Dewey coated 1 piece rod when I bought the rifle originally. Bartlein recommended a bore guide, quality coated one piece rod with swivel handle, and Parker hale type jags when I got my barrel installed. I figured they would know since they were in the barrel business. I like the guide and will likely get another one and the cleaning links for my AR. Mine stuff should last forever no more than I clean

Seems some are ignorant = ( Uninformed )of what a bore guide is and how much damage can be done when cleaning with out a bore guide.

I do believe at one time WE ALL were at this same point of not knowing.

I have some possum hollow and some Sinclair but, plan to upgrade to Lucas guides. I use Dewey and Pro Shot polished stainless steel rods. Does he also make them for Anschutz 1710 22LR models?

Yes he makes them for AR's. He built me one for my 6mm DTI upper.

As mentioned previously, you need to know the diameter of your cleaning rod when making a purchase.

I have always emailed Mike Lucas

lucasmjb@windstream.net

Send him an email stating what you want and cleaning rod diameter and he will give you a quote and turn time. He has always been quicker than his projected turn time when I have ordered.

Lucas is a copy of Neil Jones, and if you want to protect the throat from rod wear, then use one of the two above bore guides.

Neil Jones phone# in Pa is 814-763-2769

They never wear out and all the rest are much lesser quality.

These two custom bore guides have a bushing that fits on the rod that centers the rod in the bore guide, thus centering the rod in the bore....cleaning rod does not rub the throat. They also have an O ring that seals of fluids from getting in the action area. Handle is adjustable to fit in the bolt inlet of the stock, thus locking the rod guide firmly in place.

Anyone looked through a borescope to see the damage caused by not using a bore guide vs. using one? Just curious.

I use the possum hollow guides. I like that they don't scratch the receiver and insert snuggly. I also use Tipton coated rods and like those alot.

The lucas if you got the money.

I use the hoppes universal as it was cheap. It works ok except the hole for the set screw was tapped too large and so
the brass pin and doesn't work. It works ok but you have to hold the thing with one hand. I have to upgrade but I only clean the rifle about 2 or 4 times a year as I am a low volume shooter and mostly hunt.

I contacted Lucas said he wasn't taking orders so began a search for a custom bore guides. Just ordered bore guides for my .243 and .30-06 from Neil Jones said they would be in the mail next week. $48 each.

I like the Possum Hollow guides with Tipton rods. With the PH you need to put some gun oil on the O ring.I have another I think it's a Lucas which is OK but I like the tighter fit of the PH.

After seeing the price mentioned on the Lucas I knew I got it wrong,It's a dewey guide

In cleaning rods, "PH" is the abbreviation for Parker Hale cleaning rods - I've been using the same set for ~50 years. Good rods (English, of course
