Why is my cold bore shot off?

If the barrel is temperature sensitive, then you are wasting your time doing anything else.

Might be time to think about getting another barrel.

Uh..... Proly action screw at front of trigger guard. It was real loose. I swear I checked those when I scoped it . I'm an idiot!!!

Live and learn my friend, we all do it. Originally Posted By: spotshotOriginally Posted By: EJ ReichenbachCheck your action screws.

Then if nothing else is loose would bed the action.

I was afraid that was going to be the solution . Just seems like more
than an acceptable difference to compensate for each time. Guess I'll try a new barrel. Thanks .

If it throws first shot off that far at 100 yards that is pretty much crap...

Some barrels are better then others with the CBS, some loads work better then others for keeping the CBS closer with the group.

Bedding and floating aren't gonna help that much...

Either learn to deal or compensate for it, try find new bullet/powder that isn't so anal, or get a new barrel, something other then ER Shaw too...

Good luck. I hate rifles that do that, no place in my house for them when there that picky or far off at 100 yards for CBS.

A good rifle and load will put it right in there or a bullet hole away usually, that's what you want anyway.

I gotta have another 7/08- I love mine. I want a barrel under $400 and I don't have to wait more than 4 months. I was thinking a PacNor , CBI, or a Shilen. What do you think?

I agree. I'm disappointed . I had some loads with that barrel from 110 to 162 Amax. I do remember some shocking 1st misses then drilled them running on the follow ups. Looking back it all makes sense.

Unless you can find a dealer with one,you will be waiting 4-6 months . No matter the brand.

Bugholes, Butchs, & Bruno's has barrels in stock that would likely work.

I have no doubt a new barrel would be a much better shooter, but it may be cheaper to get a new gun. Depending on what you want...

New barrel gonna run ~$350 delivered then another $200-$400+ to get it installed depending on who & what is done.

I only have experience with HART and Shilen

Not sure what wait time is on them.

Both were very accurate and easy clean.

Id like try a lilja, kreiger, or mike rock 5R for the 7 RM I have planned.

He deals with Shilen, Criterion and McGowan. He keeps barrels in stock and may have a 7-08. I know he did a special purchase from Shilen for some heavy sporter barrels and 7-08 was one of the calibers.

Here is a link to his section on Savage Shooters.

He is a super nice guy to deal with.

I am sure a lot of them are good but I think it's tough to beat a Lilja or Kreiger, I am sold strictly on Lilja barrels, look at one sometime through a bore scope then look at other barrels its a whole new zip code, Liljas are a work of art.

The last one I ordered was August 2012 and I received it at the beginning of November, sometimes he has barrels in stock for Remington contours and savages.

Thx I was planning on checking with him tomorrow. I got to decide what I want.... I'm thinking heavy sporter with a 24-26 barrel. These guys got me looking at Lija too. Those tight group pics speak volumes!!!!

Before you buy a new barrel, have the action bedded. 7mm08 are not hard on barrels and every precision rifle should be bedded anyway.

Chances are the new barrel will do the same thing.
