Maybe a quick recap of this past weekend will help understand how/why we run across so much of this stuff. At this stage of the game, coyote hunting is mostly just an excuse to get out there again. Don't get me wrong, we do want to kill some coyotes. But we aren't very greedy about it anymore. Get one or two early in the day and we just might spend the entire rest of the day exploring.
We are enchanted by what might lie over the next mountain range or in the next valley. This past weekend, just cold rolling new country, we hit the best looking stands at the best times of day and did pretty good on the calling for the time we spent doing it. But we spent most of our time, looking for new dirt roads and mountain ranges and valleys we had not yet explored. Covered, eh, I'm not sure actually, but at least 200 miles of dirt this weekend? That's not unusual for us.
We camp wherever we end up at the end of the day. Almost never have a destination planned. Just roam about as we please and camp wherever we end up at the end of each day.
At a lot of the old places we find, I'll break out the metal detector. Finding old silver coins and such is not unusual. This weekend, my best find was a 1915-S wheat penny. It's roached out, so has little collector value. But it is a fairly sought after collectible coin none the less.
Just some random phone pics from this past weekend.
This is where I found the 1915-S.
Been doing it like this for going on close to 40 years.
