400 dollar optic?

Hey guys I just purchased a Remington 700. I'm going hunting this season, and I want to know what optic I should get. I have 400 dollars which I know isn't a lot but it's what I have to work with.
Thanks

It depends a lot on what you are going to shoot and how far your expectations are for range of shots. If your using a 22-250 for coyotes and your longest expected range is 300 yards, plain crosshair/duplex in something like a 2-7, 2.5-10 or 3x9 will work great and you can hold on hair for the whole distance. Using a heavier slower bullet and extending the range and something with turrets or BDC reticle and more power might be more in order.

Throw in smaller targets like PD's an GS's and more power might be required like a 4-16 or 6.5-20.

Hard to suggest with so little info to go by.

Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 from Cameralandny, $329.00. Vortex Diamondback HP 3-12x42 $249.00 to $299.00 depending on reticle. Vortex Diamondback HP models have the same lenes as the Viper model. but in 1" tubes. Cameralandny has open box specials. I ordered Diamondback HP 4-16x42 open box for $329.00 and received a new one in a sealed box direct from Vortex. If you are military or retired, or police Vortex gives a 20% to 30% direct discount.

What caliber is your rifle? What are you going to hunt, and under what conditions? Impossible to make a reasonable suggestion w/o a little more info.

Hard to argue with a Leupold VX-2 or VX-3. They are a known quantity, from a manufacturer that produces, and stands behind quality gear.

Another solid, proven optic in that range is the Zeiss Conquest 3-9. Again, a simple, proven piece of glass from an established manufacturer.

For $400, and a winter elk trip, I would stick to simple, and proven.

If I was looking for a ton of bang for my buck in an optic I'd go Zeiss

Zeiss deal

Instead of getting what you pay for with the Conquest at $329 you'll be getting more than you paid for $.02

Not to thread hijack, but that looks like a steal of a deal for a Zeiss. How does the Conquest compare to the new Conquest HD5? I know the later has 5x mag range, but other than that.?

I think watching the classifieds here is well worth it.
Some good scopes sold with very good warranty service no matter where bought.

Check out that Natchez link above. With the VX3 line getting closed out, there are some good deals to be had. I'm even considering another 3.5-10, even though I have one sitting in the safe waiting for a rifle.

Excellent choices, as long as you stay away from the refurbished Zeiss.
