The sensible choice would be a a sporter wieght 30-06 with a good 3x9 scope, good enough for any non dangerous game in the world.

But whats the fun in being sensible. I would have to go with my 25-06 AI Savage with a heavy varmint barrel and a 6x24 scope.

I was a one rifle man for a long time and that rifle was a .243 Win not counting (22lr and a 12 guage). But, since I started reading forums on the internet, I have since learned that it was to small for deer, to big for coyotes, and really there is no such thing as a general purpose rifle. So now I own several (17hmr, 2-22lr, .204, 2-.223ARs, 2-.243, 30/30, SKS, 7.62-54, 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, a 20 and two 12 guages) and don't know how I ever got by all those years with just one!!!

MPFD,

Yes, and scopes, ammo, slings, and other accessories for each.

And they said the PredMas wasn't good for business!

If I had to pick one it would probably be my Browning 1885 Low Wall in 45 Colt. I can cast my own bullets and shoot over 1,000 rounds for about $100. What other rifle can you do that with?? If the government takes away our reloading components I can still shoot for a long time. The only limiting factor would be primers(and I am covered pretty well there). The cases last forever(almost) if properly taken care of. I have several molds, and thousands of pounds of WW. I also have a good bit of powder set back. And if things get bad in the future I will buy some more powder. And a single shot Low Wall is probably the last rifle they will come after. Tom.

Ain't gonna happen here either.
Maybe the title of this thread should have been, what's your favorite rifle/chambering??
In fact, I just got back from the range seeing what loads work best in an old Rem 722 in 222 Rem I have. Best 3 shot group of the day was a .280" at 100 yards, one at 1/2", and a couple more less than an inch, so that rifle is a KEEPER.

Something accurate in a 6.5 cal, probably a .260. Brass is easy to find, or make from a 308 or 7-08, and with 140gr bullets is capable of handling anything that I hunt.
