Beware of a man with only one rifle

300 RUM - Mice to Moose (really big mice)...that and my 7 Rem Mag are really the only two guns I need for big game, but a nice short action 7-08, 308, or 300WSM would be nice to carry.

Living in So. Central PA that would be one rifle for Ground Hogs, Coyotes, white tail? Easy. .243Win with 55g NBT for ground hogs, 75g V-Max for coyotes, and 95g NBT for deer. I have all three loads on the shelf ready to go, rifle shoots them all into 1/2" @ 100 yards, what's to not like?

I usually use my .223 or Hornet for GH, but the .243 with a 55g NBT or 58g V-Max will definitely tear them up big time.

i would have trouble just picking one safe and not possible for just one rifle- However as I start my two daughters collections- I plan to build them a set based on the TC Encore - just one serilize item. Too late on my boy- he is at the safe full level already.

I concur w/ wolfhunter 25-06, although i've neverseen the 130grn lead. a good 110 with good expansion will smack whitetale into the ground.

Can't believe their's only two of us?

I'll be an odd ball but it would have to be my Winchster M94 .30-30 with a Williams peep sight. For the Maine woods it is perfect, Small, light weight, good ammo capacity, fast handling and accurate what more could you want? It has never failed me 1 11pt. 201# dressed buck, 1 9pt. 155# dress buck and a black bear all one shots. It also makes a good home protection rifle. It will kill anything it the Maine woods.

I want to say my custom .50 cal Flintlock long rifle. As I can work up a load for any game real quick. For survival I'd say a Savage 24 22lr over 20ga. With .22lr ammo, bird, buck, and slugs you got everything covered.

1 gun to hunt with?... I'd have a hard time letting go of my smoke poles, but my .260 would be my choice. With proper loads and bullets it would work for almost anything but the big bears(not many Grizzlies here in Pa.) Even then if you had to kill a Grizzly I guess a .260 with TSX bullets would work, just might not be ethical.

SHTF? I have a M1 Garand, Glock 22, and Mossberg 500 Marine that say Your not getting the rest of my guns!

I don't have a 243, but I do have an old Rem in 244. THE most accurate bullet in that rifle is the Nosler 95 grain Partition; and that ain't all bad.

I love my AR's but if I were forced to choose- .243 win in Rem 700 topped with a 3 X 9 Leupold. I could do just about anything with that.

A Reed Knight SR25 Carbine in .308. Suppressed of course. Topped with a 3.5x15 Nightforce optic.

Being a modular rifle, I can build uppers in .260, .243 or whatever. Frankly though the 308 would like do it all.

As far as a deadly rile,I've probably killed more with my Crosman 760 air rifle,in the mid 70's,than all my others combined. Not scoped, just the big ole fat, open sighted type. From sparrows to groundhogs to creek turtles. It sure made you practice on how to get close to your quarry.I also learned never to shoot at what you don't want to kill. There's about a two foot deep hole with a hummingbird buried in it.Dad never did find out.

I've got to go with a 20" AR. I know the platform pretty well and the little 223 round.

I guess if ya had me pick one, a 20" AR. for all around work.

I really couldn't say just one but a earlier post mentioned the Winchester 94 in 30-30. That would be the gun needing pried from my cold dead hands.

I got one of those rifles too, and it is a joy to own and shoot. Have a Swarovski PF 6x42 up top, and the image is magnificent.
