I'm a fan of these pistols. Bought my first one in 1964 when I was a kid. That one was a 221 FB. Then in the 70's I set up a 7MM-08 for big game hunting. Got 13 deer and 4 antelope / a million P dogs and 100's of chucks, rabbits plus other critters. I liked that one so well, in the 80's, I built one in a 6MM-BR. That was my favorite XP. Shot many a P dog , rabbit and chuck with that one. Now I'm playing with a Savage Striker ( 6MM-BR ) to get more than one shot but, it's tricky getting it to feed and eject properly. So I've had the bug for a while and I understand what you mean.

Tell us what you're building?
My guess is 6MM-BR. Great cartridge in my opinion.

If a man buys a new gun at the gun show and his wife doesn't hear it, does that mean he bought a new gun. There are many trees in the forest. She may not be able to recognize one from an other.

My cousin told me, never say "NEW GUN" in this house.
He's a wise man.

I'm shooting a 6 PPC .262 tight neck with a Shilen barrel ordered a Lilja straight 1.250 barrel in 13 twist for another 6 ppc and i'm looking for another barrel as we speak to do a 6 Dasher or a 6 BRX throated & twisted for the high 80's mid 90's bullets . I have been shooting pistol scopes 1 st was Leupold 2.5 x 8 way to much eye relief then went to 3 x 12 Burris I like the Burris eye relief but i need more power with the longer im getting out have on order a set of Burris rings to try my NightForce scope i like to be able to count the hairs type power.

That 6PPC will do the job. I've played with many pistol scopes. I found it best to have the long eye relief. My 6BR's don't kick very bad, but my 7MM-08 has a tendency to give me a black eye if I don't have plenty of eye relief. I have 2 Burris 3x9 with stadia lines for hold over. A friend has the the 2x7 with the lines.
He shoots very well with it. I'm a high power fan and would like something greater than a 12 power, but the eye relief seems to be a problem for me.

How is it working out for you and what power is that Knightforce.
.

The Nightforce is a 12 x 42 .My rig is extrememly heavy even with the sporter barrel i have on it now .My stock started its life as a XP100 R stock it has been filled in with Devcon and a steel plate added to the bottom for addition weight and was made to ride in a 3 " bag .I'm estimating that with the NightForce it should way in around 14 lbs . With shooting the ppc recoil is very very tame . I'm 1 of those bench type guys just getting into this game. My shooting is off of a Hart 1000 yard rest with a Farley Compact on top . Here is Virginia I dont have problems useing the 12 x 42 but on extremely hot days and generally in the morning or late evening it ok then . It's something to say about your eye sight after 45 -50 years of age. Some things just dont work like they use tooo.

On SP's I have pretty much gone to rifle scopes on all of my rigs.
Note: all of my specialty pistols have muzzle brakes.
Once set-up correctly distance is not difficult.

Here, here. My latest coyote rig--Savage Super Striker 22-250/8T McGowen/80 A-Max at 2850 mv./NF 3.5-15 NP-R1 reticle--

This is a shot I made with my XP-100 back in the 1990's when I was a young fellow.
300 yards, 120 gr Hornady using my 7MM-08.
I dragged my father along to record the hunt. Video cameras were so new, that it took several hunts before he finally found the target in the camera and got this footage. He couldn't figure out how to run the camera and it was HIS camera. After several tries, I was very happy that he finely got it figured out.

Interesting post going on here. I used to be engrossed in TC Contenders some 20+ years ago. I bought a 16" 223 barrel and topped with a 2-6X Redfield pistol scope. It shot like a dream, it was more accurate than any rifle I owned at the time. I sold the barrel when times got a little tight, I wished I still had it.

Here is my longest hit on a groundhog with it. It was 180yds with a solid rest, I put the crosshairs on top his head when stood up, the piture tells the rest:

Very nice hand cannons . I dont at all feel underpowered or that i need more accuracy than what this pistol is capable of producing . Please continue I'll learn some day how to install pictures .So far i have limited my shooting to 200 yards or meters I have 7 inches drop with a 100 zero with low 80 temp and 60 % humidity at 200. I could bump up the charge but shes shooting fine like it is . I either hold over or click the burris. Have fun headed out in about 45 minutes might get 1 this afternoon .

Jim

The first thing to do is create an account at a photo storage web site like Photobucket. But there are many sites.

Once you've uploaded your pictures, "COPY" the image code and paste it into the post you are making, right where you want the picture to apear.
The code will look like this.

And the picture will appear right where that
is
like this.

Here is Sebastian with my 6-284 XP, using 115 DTAC's with kills from 250-350 yards. It was his first day to use a SP.

My longest kill off of a bi-pod with my 7mm Dakota XP-100, 200 grain Wildcat bullet, right at 1450 yards.

2nd day of dog shooting for Sebastian and took this one just beyond 1K. 6.5-284 XP-100, using 140 A-Max

Longest 22lr kill with a MOA Charger clone. sscoyote spotting for me. He killed one right at the same yardage with one of his 22lr rigs.

Are you both using rifle scopes? Looks like it might be.
I've shot 100, 120 and 139 gr bullets out of my 7MM-08 and it's a hand full of bucking snorting fire breathing dragon. I've been tapped on the fore head a couple of times and that was with a 120 gr bullet using a pistol scope. You are one brave dude if you are shooting a 200 gr bullet and with a rifle scope.

1,450 yrds is a long poke out there and you need a heavy VLD bullet to do so.
Fantastic shot.

You are getting me all hot and bothered. I may have to do some P dog hunting to get this out of my system.
