Most Worthless Calibers

Most worthless calibers?? Anything intoduced in the last 50 years. Think about it, what has been intoduced that has added significantly to what was already availible? Yet every year gun companies seem intent on trying to reinvent the wheel by introducing a new caliber.

Nah, introducing new calibers isn't driven by performance, it's all about marketing.

1924 people have read it. 101 people have replied. Worthless?????

Just seems to be conversation and opinions to me.

I own several firearms others consider useless or undesireable , but as long as I can reload or buy the ammo for them I still like to shoot them . I have my designated hunting rifles and calibers that overlap them but they are mine and I can shoot them whenever I feel the need . It's my right as a gun owner . Opinions are like A$$holes . WE all have one .

For someone like me these are my favorite threads, gives me a chance to pull someone's chain and get the vein in their neck standing out and get them redfaced.

But I've been good, even when someone called the .257 worthless in favor of the 6.5 mm. Not once did I call the person an idiot, I'm just to nice for that. And we're all entitled to our opinions. After all there only opinions.

WOOOOOOW!!! I cannot bolieve this thread! Its almost blasphomy. Im not gonna call any calibers worthless, but maybe defend a few. ALL OTHERSASIDE, who in their right mind calls the .308 winchester and 30-06 springfield worthless!!!!!!??? Its not like either of those 30s have defended our country during two WORLD WARS, or have been in a snipers hands since vietnam right? Yeah that must just be rumors right? Oh and how bout the tens of thousands of trophy game taken with either? huh?

It has nothing to do with new. I'm just upset he didn't include anything with "mag" after it or caliber followed by "-06" or .204 for that matter.

I think everyone should shoot what makes them happy. I hunt a lot just like everyone else here, and I shoot extreme long distance for fun.

A couple of things that people said here are funny to me.

7mm is ballistically one of the best "conventional" calibers available.

Conversely you could argue that .308 caliber is ballistically one of the worse, but most popular. I for one loose more projectiles out of my 308 Winchester than anything else.

Lots of guys are dogging on the WSM family. This is funny to me because a 7 WSM shooting a 180 grain Berger VLD at a conservative 2900 fps is 2000 yard capable. Also the 300 WSM currently holds the 1000 yard 10 shot world record. Not to shabby for such a hated family of cartridges.

my nephew shot two bobcats with a .17hmr less than 50 yards and we played tracker for 3 hours later, not impressed with this round.we could still drive tacks with it at 150 yards.

Have had really good accuracy out of an old .308 bolt action when i was younger, but every target showed the bullet was tumbling, never got to kill anything with it though.the gun was unfortunately bought out from uner me.

Some call a cartridge worthless because they are not using it for what it was intended. I don't think the 17 hmr was intended for bobcats or coyote's. I have one and would not take it calling. However for ground squirrels, Crows, etc at 100 yards or less it is extremely effective, and in an area where ricochets can be an issue it is much less prone to that than a .22 or .22 mag. I love my .17hmr but I use it for what it was intended. But I don't try to pull my 29' camper with my car either.

Well said SJ
I actually posted that in jest because of the "HMR for Coyotes" history on this site.
The Hummer holds no interest for me, but I have nothing against it personally as long as it's used along with a dose of common sense.
The same thing can be said for any caliber.
One thing about the Hummer though, it entertains on several different levels eah?

I like most all of them. I will not by a .17. My favorite varmint gun is my 223 wssm, but I had to rebarrel it to make it shoot, sorry guys who like the swift but the 223 wssm smokes it. I love the 257 weatherby for deer and the 300 rum for elk

Oh I forgot anything with wssm and rum behind it is worthless I suppose weatherby is too. Please. I would use a 30-30 in the right situation. It's big open country out here that's why I have my calibers
