What are your gas prices?

Diesel fuel in Denver, $2.49 on Wednesday, $2.79 on Thursday. I wish they would apply a little personal lubricant first, maybe it would ease the pain.

southern indiana 3.02 for gas 2.79 for diesel. Well they did say that the hurricane whiped ou a bunch of those offshore rigs buuuuutttt who are they?

Our Gas comes from California. The hurricane doesn't have anythig to do with supply here, but watched it jump from $2.78 (going to work) to $3.02(comming home from work) today. And of course they always raise the price before a holiday weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

At noon today, central KS gas went from 2.89 to 3.22 for premium.

As of noon eastern time, the Energy Secretary suspended all federal Clean Air Act provisions regarding the various blends and additives across the country, until 9-15.

Between the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend, the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and the fact that Congress has been on recess all this month, it will be interesting to see what happens when those boys get back to their offices and start reading their mail. So many ppl gripe about the President and how this is his fault. Bull! Your Congressmen and women have implemented all the greenie federal laws that require every county in the country to have their own designer blend of gasoline, they've supported environmental laws that prohibit the creation of more refineries and the drilling for oil in Alaska and offshore, and passed legislation that creates federal taxes that effectively double the price of a gallon of gas. There is a lot they could do to bring relief to this country. In fact, it has been mentioned thast this sudden spike in fuel prices (remember that half the cost of a gallon of fuel is taxes) is possibly just one way for the federal government to make up for tax revenues lost due to tax reductions. Although it sounds a little "black helicopter-ish", you sure don't hear too many of the Washington folks stepping up to address the problem.

On another related matter, I hope a lot of people wake up and see what happens when we see just one major port compromised. How hard would it be now to shut down the port of Houston with a terrorist attack and basically hobble us respective to oil and natural gas imports? This country is so vulnerable in so many ways.

Cdog911,
You are absolutely right on!! All of us should call our congressmen and women and politely give'em a good chewing out.

here is some food for thought. Think back 4 years ago.... just about 10 days from now. Gas went up to $2.?? a gallon and we all threw giant fits. Now $2.?? is seaming better than what we have now.

Yep. I bet you can forget ever seeing it below $2 a gallon again.

It doesn't seem like anyone is parking their vehicles though. What do you think the threshold is? $4-$5 dollars a gallon? How long before people just start staying home?

I was going to drive about 40 miles to go dove hunting in the morning. It is a hit or miss proposition (as most dove hunting is around here) so I will probably just stay home even though I am off tomorrow.

It will cost me about $7.00 more to gas my truck up tomorrow than it did this time last Saturday. It has gone up 39 cents/gallon in 3 days.

Crapshoot, beleive it or not,the gas you get from Kali may have travelled all the way from the east coast of Canada! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Irving Oil Refinery here in my town,is I beleive the largest refinery on the eastern seaboard, and one of the top producers on the continent. They import crude oil from Venezuela. They produce some of the cleanest gasoline available on the continent.I learned today from a friend who works there that every barrel of gas produced here is currntly shipped to Kali via The Gulf and Panama Canal because it is of such high quality it can be blended with lower grade fuel and still meet California emission standards. The gas that they sell us here is actually produced elsewhere, imported and distributed by the refinery.Unbeleivable?

Wanna here another good one?I can drive 70 miles South, cross the border into Calais,ME,fill up at an Irving gas station in ME for $2 less/gallon than the outrageous $5/gal I will pay here at the Champlain Heights Irving staion less than a mile from the main gate to one of the largest, newest refineries in the Western World!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

On Tuesday night it was 2.78 at the Mcclure truck stop at exit 140 on I-65 in Indiana. Tonight it is 3.20 at the same station. That is a 42 cent jump in 24 hours. If that isn't gouging I'm the fairy god mother. Cheapest I see anywhere around here is 3.18. Someone better get off their asses and get this thing under control before people get really [beeep] off here.

$2.95 a gallon here in Frost,Mn but still drove 70 miles last night to Cabella's to look at all the things I won't be able to live without this next fall hunting season.

Disciplining ourselves not to leave home is going to be tough. What's cheaper,$3.00 gas or a house full of kids?

Pyledriver:

The reason that the gasoline distributors increase their costs $0.20 or more in one day is that while they didn't pay that increased price for the gas that was pumped into their storage tanks a few days ago, they realize that they are going to have charge more for the gas in their storage tanks today in order to afford the next load they receive. Sure, there are a few crooks as there are in anything, but most filling stations are run by good, ethical businessmen. If I were looking into making huge profits in the oil and gas business, the gas station is the LAST place I'd choose.

Take care and God Bless,

Rusty

Someone said that the price of the gas in the stations tanks does not have to go up just because the spot price rises. That is not true because the station has to make enough money on what they are selling to replace it with the higher priced gas.

Jack....I'm sorry Bud, but I disagree. As a business owner, I can readily tell you that the BEST way to go out of business is to PRICE-GOUGE. Pricing a product on speculation is not only bad business practice, but can be seen through some peoples eyes as immoral.

Jack & Rusty Holt:

If the station owners don't have enough operating capital to pay for the fuel when it is delevered, and then sell it at a REASONABLE profit, then they are bad managers and need to find themselves another line of work! And on another note.....a gas station is not a money maker?? You need to get your head out of the sand, Dude. I have two friends who made a "weak living" in the gas station business. They're both living on huge horse ranches and driving new trucks, while their pretty wive's Porsche's are sitting in the 5-stall garages. No money selling gas?? Give me a break.

I agree with Nibbler, Rusty. That lame-assed threadbare excuse has been thrown around for too long now. Between my taxidermy work, writing and callmaking, how would it fly if I just kept upping my prices every other day and you were one of my customer's, because the price of foam went up (it did), the cost of printer ink or CD's went up, or I just have to pay a tad bit more for that there block of cocobolo. Of course, I already had the stuff on hand that you bought, BUT I STILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY INVENTORY!!! Huh??? A good businessman will manage his overhead to make a sufficient enough profit to cover future price increases. This is now a plain and simple case of price gouging, the same as it was on the afternoon of September 11, 2001, and I for one hope the states and federal government launch a massive investigation to see just where all the extra money is going. Assuming, of course, that they aren't the ones making the profit off increased tax revenue and letting the private folks take the heat.

As far as burning more fuel, our family has made major changes in our life to accomodate this problem. My wife's car gets double the mileage of my truck, so I use it anytime I leave town. We maintain a list of items on the blackboard that can only be picked up outside of town and combine what used to be several spur of the moment trips into one. You can also bet that, at these prices, there will be a lot of farmers going under and food prices will reflect that problem. We're signing a contract on a new home today that is more energy efficient and smaller than the one we're in now, and I'm spec'ing out a new AC/ furnace for it to get the most energy efficient model I can afford. Money spent now will mean much money saved later. So, yeah, for some of us, the times are forcing us to make changes.
