Sounds like we need to get into the refining business$$$
Anyone know what that takes?
Several billion dollars, just for starters
My dad is a control and instrumentation electrician, he is working in a refinery in Denver, Who just had to spend about 500 million dollars to comply with the latest rounds of government restrictions, and requirements for pollution controls.
I am not going to be very popular here for what I am about say but here it is anyhow
It is a very expencive game these companys are playing, billions of dollars at every turn in the road, What do you think this hurricane in the gulf has cost them?
I am not taking their side in the gas prices, I dont like either, record profits maybe so, but these companys must be ready to lay out billions of dollars at the drop of a hat. Thats pretty hard to do with no money in the check book.
Like I said in my above post, these refinerys have to make possibly 100's of different types of fuels, for different federal and state requirements, Why dont we get rid of those first, come up with a nation wide standard so these companys only have to make 3 types of fuel? would that lower the cost of fuel? with out a doubt!
Gas taxes alone here in colorado, last I heard attributed to about .60 cents a gallon, someone may have better info on this than me, please correct me if I am wrong.
There are so many factors that affect the cost of fuel, cost of oil, refineing costs, middleman markup, distrubitor markup, transportation costs, and the last one on the list, the guy you get it from, local gas station owners profits!!
Just think for a moment how many times the cost of transportation is figuerd in this mix? from getting crude oil out of the ground, to the gallon of gas you put in your car.
HUH this might stir up a hornets nest, but a few more thoughts from the brain of furhunter!
